I was just wondering if anyone agreed with me in that i think its absoultly absurd that people actively give to animal charities when there are people starving all over this world!

Im all for stopping cruelity against animals, but at the end of the day who really cares when there are people in need!

God bless you, Shanahan, for seeing through the murk. Most of us love animals, but many of us get totally ridiculous in our approach to life. Human beings, and certainly the poor starving people in Africa, India and other third world countries are far more important than some straggly cats and dogs picked up from puppy mills and "hoarders".

We also pay entirely too much attention to taking care of people who don't want to be bothered doing anything for themselves in this country, and want everything handed to them on a platter. The poor of the third world are far more in need, and far more of them can be helped, and in fact KEPT ALIVE, with the same amount of money.

Both are important. I think the reason why some people give to animal charities rather than ones for humans, to answer your question, is because animals lack the ability to take a stand for their own rights. By donating to a charity for animals, many people feel that they are giving a voice to the creatures who lack the power of speech.

Of course, it's not as though starving African orphans get soap-boxes in the park, but there you have it.

Everyone that I know who donates to animal charities also donates to groups who work with human beings or actually do work for others.

Animals in need are innocent victims who have no voice.

Human beings have ways to ask for help and there are lots of resources that they can access for that help as well as a multitude of agencies and groups who's very existence is in the doing of good deeds for people .

I'm having a hard time comprehending why this is even an issue to anyone.
No less a genius than Ghandi himself claimed that a society could be judged by the way they treat their animals. As a feeling human being, I could no more ignore an animal in need than I could a person.
What is it that you suggest that we do instead of supporting animal rights...look the other way? As long as there are human beings, there will be abused and discarded animals, and they, being helpless and voiceless, will require our assistance.
In a perfect world, everyone would get their pets spayed and neutered and otherwise provide proper care for them. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth.
We ALL share this Earth, humans and animals alike, and I like to think that my donations to groups like the Humane Society have may helped to bring about changes in the law in which humans who abuse animals face CONSEQUENCES.
Btw, my own pets ARE "people" to me...actually, they're preferable to most people!

i does no longer take comments from this area as being very significant in all honesty, I as quickly as had 2 thumb downs for asserting my father in regulation had worked interior the mines till he become sixty 5. because of the fact that no-one on right here knew my father in regulation and my answer become in keeping with actuality, there become no reason in the back of thumbs of any form. to respond to your question, I help many animal charities and could proceed to realize this, no longer because of the fact I dislike human beings yet because of the fact animals are purely ever represented by ability of people who shield their welfare, and there often seems to be no longer sufficient human beings. without rescue canines, instruction manual canines, listening to canines, horses, and a super style of alternative animals that make contributions their centers to our communities a super style of human beings may well be homestead certain. i think of they should be regarded for his or her efforts interior the comparable way everybody is

People who give usually give to multiple kinds of charities. I think that nurturing a culture of charity helps all who are in need -- people and animals both.

I can't get over the fact that Americans will donate their money to groups in Africa before they use the money to help the kids of America.

Donations outside the United States when we have out own problems and donations to animal groups is almost as bad.

Considering that most of us waste vast amounts of money on personal conveniences and little pleasures, the fact that some are giving AT ALL is a boon.

I do not agree with you even a little bit. I give to whomever because I want to. You give to the charity of your choice and I will give to the charity of my choice. You have absolutely NO right to tell me how I should or should not distribute my income.
