cause the buttered side is heavier?

well there is two reasons, the first and more simpler one is the fact that the bread is butter side up on the table and the table is only far enough off the ground for the bread to turn once when it falls!

the other is because when you butter the breads you press the bread inwards on the buttered side, causing an almost invisible parachute effect on the bread, when the bread falls and twirls, the air is caught in the concave buttered side so the bead stays like that until it hits the ground!!

you probably weren’t looking for a literal answer but I thought I would tell you anyway!

Perhaps the fatty side modifies the center of gravity of the system, making it heavier on the butter side. Serious.
Now less serious, consider that a cat always lands on its feet, so if you attach a slice of buttered bread, butter side up on the back of the cat and let the system in Free fall (with a nice cushion on the floor and not from too high, I love cats) you would achieve the perfect anti gravitational system. :-)

No, it doesn't always fall butter down. I dropped some once and it fell the right way up, but then the dog ate it. It is just that the butter is heavier.

Sometimes it falls buttered side up, sometimes it falls buttered side down. Just make sure you know which side your bread's buttered.

Because you always butter in on the wrong side. Try the other side and it will always land butter up.

There is less aerodynamic drag on the greasy butter side than the lumpy bread side so it travels faster through the air and so hits the ground first.

The butter makes it the heavier side

It's been tested time and time again. It's like tossing a coin, over 100 goes it will always be 50/50 or very close to it.

You tend to be more aware and react to it falling butter side down, cause it's agravating and messy, so you remember it more.

Because the buttered side weighs more than the not-buttered side.

Try attaching one to the back of cat, then drop the cat and see if he lands feet first or buttered side down!!!
