My french boyfriend bought me a penholder for my birthday gift. I'm really upset and I don't know what to do.

I'm a Chinese girl and we have been dating for 2 years.

He told me he bought me the gift really late as he has been busy.

In the past, I have given him really nice stuff like Hugo Boss ties and expensive socks, you know practical guy stuff.

As a girl, I can feel it when a guy doesn't put in much effort to get me a gift. The type of gift also tells me how much he values me as a girlfriend.

I agree that love shouldn't be material. It comes from the heart.

But ultimately, in a relationship we want to work towards marriage.

If a guy is so stingy about his girlfriend before marriage, can you imagine what happens after marriage???

He could be testing your love for him and not his wallet, thus testing to see how deep you are as a person. Also I agree with a wide range of answers already posted.
If he truly loves you, then that will show all the time, that is priceless.

Try not to be so material.

people are different...maybe he's really thrifty and not romantic. but if you love him you need to accept him how he is..you need to learn to accept a person's negative side, and he'll learn to accept yours. That's the hardest part for me though...but once you'll get through it, evrything will be fine. just appreciate what he gave(atleast he gave the effort and remember to buy you a gift), although we all know how unromantic that is. and just think of what's better.. he didn't remember that it's your bday and didn't give anything or he remembered, took the time to buy your gift, and gave something to you..

Well, perhaps you should ask him how he came to the decision to buy you a pen holder for your birthday. Then in the future let him know what you would like to receive. But, in his defense, he did get you something and was being thoughtful.

I hope to god he got you a pen to go with it? You should see some of the crap my partners got me over the years! Yours sounds good compared to some of the gifts he's got me. I just laugh about it now!

what did u expect ? a diamond ring ? I believe u had your expectations so maybe disappointed. in any gift, u shudn't expect anything to value the gift.

Don't be an ungrateful bi+ch. That's a gift that sounds like he put thought into. You could've gotten scratchoffs.

Suck it up and deal with it. If you think that he put absolutely no thought into your present ... get him a paperweight for his birthday or something along those lines. At least he got you something.
