AS AN OWNER OPERATOR OF AN 18 WHEELER, I WOULD FIRE YOU FOR SUCH A THING AS THIS "RIDE THE CLUTCH". WHEN YOU DO THIS IT WEARS THE CLUTCH OUT PREMATURELY, WHICH COSTS MONEY IN YOUR POCKET & THE OWNER OF THE TRUCK. WHEN TRUCK IS IN MOTION, AN 18 WHEELER, NEVER PUSH THE CLUTCH IN ALL THE WAY. THIS WILL WEAR OUT THE CLUTCH BRAKE AS WELL. THATS WHY ON SOME TRUCKS YOU HERE THAT GRINDING SOUND WHEN THEY ARE PUTTING IT IN GEAR. CLUTCH BRAKE ONLY WORKS WHEN YOU PRESS CLUTCH PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR.

WHEN DRIVING AN 18 WHEELER REMEMBER DONT RIDE THE A,B,C'S @$$, BRAKES, CLUTCH

To "ride the clutch" means simply having your foot on the clutch pedal. Depending on the amount of pressure you have on the clutch pedal you may simply be putting pressure on the throw out bearing causing it to spin needlessly or at worst allowing the clutch to slip against the flywheel. Neither is good. The downhill has nothing to do with riding the clutch. You can ride the clutch going uphill as well.

One can "ride the clutch" on any vehicle with a manual transmission. The propper use of the clutch is to either have the peddle fully depressed or not, this either disengagues or engagues the clutch. When the clutch is not either fully disengagued or engauged you are "riding the clutch." This practice can cause excessive wear and damage to the clutch plate. Don't do it.

Keep your foot on the clutch - wears out the clutch plate. Shouldn't do it anytime!

It means putting the clutch in and letting your momentum carry you forward. It is easy for things to get away from you if you do this going downhill while carrying a heavy load.

It means you are holding in the clutch and brake to slow down. You just need to gear down and let the engine slow you down and using the brakes to keep it under control also.
