The correct response, regardless of the woman's weight is, "No, of course not, dear! You are the most beautiful, appealing woman in the world and I am so lucky to have you, you gorgeous lady!"
When we want true criticism, we go to our female friends. When we want to be reassured and/or complimented, we go to our husbands/boyfriends/guys we like. It's kind of dumb, I know, because men have this tendency to say things like they are without having any hidden meaning under the words. You'd think after all these generations we'd learn not to ask questions like this, but, oh well. What I wrote above is the proper response:)

I don't ask questions like that, but I do ask my husband if an outfit flatters me. He always says yes. I think he means it, though.
If we were out somewhere, and I asked a friend if I looked okay, I would expect to hear yes because it's too late to do anything about it. For that reason, I probably wouldn't ask. If I were still at home, I would want a friend to be honest (but kind) while there is still time for me to change.
If she has an outfit you prefer, just say 'You look fine, but why not wear your green dress? I love that on you.'
One last thing. If you always say 'You look great', eventually she will realise that is the only answer she is going to get and stop throwing the loaded question at you, unless she just wants to hear that she looks great. Everyone needs that sometimes.

I've been there. You say 'no' and you're a lier later on when she decides the pants make her butt look too big. You say 'yes' and they're still angry because they like the pants. You tread on thin water no matter what you say. I now ask her 'what do you think, you have to wear them' and it gets me off the hook.

Nobody can give an intelligent answer to your question without seeing the girl in the pants.
In some cases, the answer would be, " Yes they do ". In other cases the answer might be , " They look just fine ".
Again, let's see the girl wearing the parts before making a decision.

There is no right or wrong answer to this question.
If you say "No" she will think you are lying to keep on her good side.
If you say "Yes" you are dead.
Probably safest is something like "They are a really good fit and flatter your figure. You look very nice in them"
This hopefully gets you off the hook without directly answering her question.

Always "of course not".
On occasion, you can be humorous and say that you used to suspect her butt was too big, but now you have undeniable proof (only use this if said lady has a sense of humor).

According to my husband who was a bachelor, never married, for 56 years prior to our marriage, there is no appropriate answer to this question. Duck out if it's asked.

A yes answer will put a fast end to a shopping trip you didn't want to go on in the first place. Whatever she tries on, just tell her it makes her look fat; you'll be out of there in no time and she will think twice before dragging you along again.

The proper response is, "no, of course not -you look beautiful." Then change the subject IMMEDIATELY.
A humorous response is - "no, but they make your thighs look really thick." If you say that, however, duck.

No, they do not. But as for me personally, I would say they just don't do your body any justice because your
figure is much too flattering to be covered in such a disastrous design.
The designer should be executed.
Please, pick out another outfit.
