Yes I already know what works for me, I ask to see if others use different associations and how they work for them.

North-Earth
East-Air
South-Fire
West-Water
Center-Spirit

:) As the first poster said, these are the most common. The reason is burried in tradition, symbolism, etc. I was always told that it came from Thelema practices, but I could be wrong. (And one then must wonder where Thelema got it from... Crowley stole a lot from the Golden Dawn, etc.)

Ok, a quick Google got me this article --> http://www.cs.utk.edu/~mclennan/BA/JO-PE.txt

East = Air
South = Fire
West = Water
North = Earth

These are the directions and elemental correspondences that I first learned, and first lessons tend to stick with you.

East: Air; South: Fire; West: Water;North: Earth as well. I am aware of the controversy some CMs make over the proper place of air, but I find these both exceptionally appropriate for me (West of me is Lake Erie, for example) and functional for CM.

Wow. Not answering by the way, just bemused about the first answer.

I have chosen a fire-elemental demon as my avatar, I live in the south of my country, yet I am drawn further south.

And many of my friends are Wiccans, Pagans and Witches.

Is there a message in this?

I know the traditional: North with earth, East with air, South with fire, West with water. But, I don't follow that. To me it makes more sense to associate North with air, East with water, South with fire, and West with earth. As for why, I made a video on youtube describing it:

Air- East~~Home~where i breathed my first breath
Fire- South~~The fire station

For me it is:
North - Air - because the cold air comes from the North where I live
East - Earth - because my homeland it to the east of me.
South - Fire - because it is hotter the farther south your go
West - Water - because there are more oceans to the west of me.
