Not at all. I know some very hetro alcoholics. Mike sounds homophobic. He must have a problem with the intimacy required to receive help with this problem.

It sounds to me like he's trying to avoid admitting his problem, which is the first step to dealing with it. You tell him that, if he's not alcoholic, there should be no problem with never taking another drink. If he needs to drink, he's alcoholic, period.
