.rar files are similar to .zip files they are not movie files or avi files simply just a file compresser u need to download winrar to uncompress the .rar file then u will have your unpacked avi file

an rar file is a compressed file, like a zip file. The content can be of any nature. so, first you have to open the rar to find what file does it contain. if it contains any media format, you can always find a converter to convert it to avi.
you can download rar for free of the net, as well as the converters...my suggestion would be, use Google to locate free RAR installer....
