It seems to me Britain would benefit from this, and had it been done from the 1950's onwards, this country would be a better place!

Some cultures and races seem to do well here, and others simply do not. Im generalising, as i think you have to, but using criteria such as: successful integration with the indiginous british, levels of employment, academic achievement, family stability, levels of crime/%of prison population etc, peoples such as Middle Eastern Christians, Jews, Non Muslim Indians(Hindu, Sikh, Jain etc), Orientals/Chinese, Poles, Czechs, Italians, Greeks etc seem to do very well in Britain, as do Anglo/Celtic people who are historically british and come back, such as Australians, Kiwis, Canadians, South Africans, White Zimbabweans etc.

Whereas Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Somalis, Afro-Caribbeans(paricularly young men), North African Arabs, Albanians, Kurds etc do not do so well using those criteria.

Muslims seem to fit in less well than other religions also.

Every country has immigration, always has and always will. It may be racist, but i think its utter madness to allow peoples whose culture, values, way of life is totally at odds or incompatible with your own. As my user name suggests, im NOT of British origin myself!

Many people who immigrate here seem to resent Britain, Its History, people, culture and Success. Why do those who have an inferiority complex come here in the first place???

I'm a Muslim and I think there should be criteria for immigration. It is not the duty of a country to accept others who feel hatred towards that country. I have seem some very ridiculous Muslim protests in Europe with absolute lunatics shouting things like "We will be head you. May Osama bomb you. We will take your wives as booty." Unbelievable!

I don't know what is up with that. Sometimes I think they are staged videos, they are so crazy. But alas, they probably aren't. It is just so foreign to my experience of life as a Muslim in America, it is hard to believe.

As a Muslim, I find these sentiments so beyond absurd, it's revolting. People who voice these opinions publically should be rounded up and sent back to where they came from. How dare they bite the hand that feeds them like that? Nobody forced them to move to those countries. They are hypocrites, benefitting from the advantages of life in those countries and yet hoping for their destruction.

On the other hand, to deny immigration wholesale on the basis of one's religion is not right either. The majority of Muslim immigrants do not hold those views and it would be unfair to generalize. There could be measures taken to prevent radicals from immigrating without penalizing everyone else.

The truth is not always politically correct, and it may soon be a crime to even debate immigration issues. The present system is obviously flawed and needs to be challenged and changed through proper debate without the P.C brigade playing the racist card and sty-filing debate on the issue.

well, you get losers and crazies from every group, but it seems that in the last couple generations or so that a certain group has declared war on the rest of the world, for whatever reasons, and it seems to be mad to not at least screen people of that group much more carefully, and maybe accept fewer of them. Its not like there is any lack of immigrants from every background to choose from.

I think 1 of the major bonuses of England and especially London is the wide range of cultures, religions, races etc.It makes for a more varied life.England is built on immigration for the last 2000 or more years,to try and change that now would be wrong.

This question could only be asked by someone who calls himself a god. Not a single fact for us mere mortals to challenge.

I believe we should have the same standards for all other countries......background check for criminal record, communicable diseases, etc. In FL we have the wet-foot, dry-foot policy for Cubans. (If they touch shore with one foot, they can stay.) That's not right!
