Only as a placebo.
If you take a sugar pill, thinking that it is medicine, it may still have some positive affect just because your mind expects it. Prayer is the same way. If you think it is going to work, it will seem to work.
Other than that, prayer is useless. It's a way for people to feel good about doing something, without actually having to do anything.
Witchcraft is just as useless and also works, at most, as a placebo.

Yes prayer works, if you are a christian God hears you. I assure you prayer is NOT witchcraft. God however knows a heck of alot more than we do. So like the guy who prays to die, (Obviously leads a very sad life) God can hear you that doesn't mean he'll answer in ways expected.

Prayer is a form of self-hypnosis; in that way I suppose it could be a lot like some kinds of witchcraft. That is, they are ways of focusing your attention, possibly visualizing methods of attaining results.
Other than that, it has no affect on the real world.

If you're talking about intercessory prayer, witchcraft tends to cut out the middleman. LOL

Prayer is superstition -- believing a pattern which does not exist in the world.
If events seem to "answer the prayer" they are remembered. If events deny the "truth" of prayer, then they are either forgotten, or the weasel-words "God answered the prayer, but not in the way you wanted" are used.
Evidence is not used by irrational people.

some people will argue this point till they're blue in the face, but at the end of the day, prayers and spells(for want of a better word) are one and the same thing, and use exactly the same principales.

Well it didn't work for the churchgoers celebrating mass in Peru when the earthquake struck and brought the church down upon them.
That seems like a pretty clear indicator to me.

I say there is a lot in common.
I spent a year in a Convent school when we were constantly asked to prey for some or another ill relative of someone one.
I didn't experience that sensation again, that is until I started my Wiccan path.

Prayer can work. If it is witch craft you wouldn't be condemned to purgatory as Jesus himself prayed therefore the bible is contradictory of itself.
Anyways the bible was written nearly a century after these events happened, i wouldn't worry too much about it.
