Neither Broome nor Cairns is on the Tropic of Capricorn.
Cairns is over 1000kms north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
Broome is approx 1500kms north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
If you look at a map there's not very much along the Tropic of Capricorn.
Rockhampton, Queensland is on the east coast and is on the Tropic of Capricorn.

I don't think there are any villages or towns that lie directly on the Tropic of Capricorn. Starting from the coast I'd guess that Keppel Sands is close. Then Rockhampton, which is said to be about 10km north, west and south to Westwood, Gogango, Duaringa, Bluff, Blackwater, Comet, Emerald (which is about 10 km south of it and Capella which is maybe 35 km north), Anakie, Bogantungan, Alpha, Jericho, Barcaldine and Longreach. Longreach is almost exactly on the tropic.
Most of these places have fewer than 500 people. Several have fewer than 100. Rockhampton is the largest with maybe 55,000 people, next would be Blackwater with maybe 5,000 people (it keeps changing as coal mining booms and busts) then Emerald with maybe 9,000. Longreach has a few thousand people. That is the end of the railway line and the end of the towns in Queensland near the tropic.
Alice Springs is maybe 40km south of the Tropic in the Northern Territory. The aboriginal community of Haast's Bluff is virtually on the tropic but from there west there is nothing for many hundreds of kilometres of desert until get to Newman in the Ophthalmia Ranges. From there to the coast there is no town or village of any kind.
The tropics marked on maps are average positions. The actual tropics move a little north and south every year as the Earth wobbles slightly from precession etc.

Snowy Mountains - Probably for the scenery and things such as skiing, snow boarding, etc. Gold Coast - Heaps of things to do, nice shopping centres, great theme parks, nice beaches, etc. Darwin - Weather is tropical, always hot and humid too. I guess the small and medium shopping centres are alright, the biggest one Casuarina is the best one out of them all though. An alright ARTIFICIAL beach. Broome - Kind of a hole, shopping centres aren't that good, but I guess if you put the whole China town with Paspaley Plaza, it's good. But if it was Boulevard vs. Paspaley Plaza (without Chinatown), the Boulevard would win for sure. But the beaches are good, I guess. Cairns - Like Darwin but a little bit cooler and much more rain. I can't tell you much more about Cairns since I haven't been there, but I have family friends that used to live there. I haven't talked to them much about how Cairns is like.
