Babies born at 36/37 weeks are considered late preterm babies. They usually do quite well, but sometimes have difficulty with eating enough or temperature control, and become jaundiced more easily. A mother can have these crampy feelings and other signs of impending labor for quite a while before actually delivering. A term birth is considered 38 weeks or more.

My friend had a planned C-section at 36 weeks because of placenta previa, but it all turned out OK. The baby was born healthy, and had a few extra medical precautions because of the early birth, and of course, she wasn't skipping around after a C-section, but by the end of a year, they were both completely normal (-:.

It's good to think about these things, but don't obsess about them. Medical technology has made amazing advances in the last century, and while things may be tough for a baby born a month prematurely, they usually pull through OK.

Another friend had her baby two months early, and the baby is now a delightful, healthy wonderful six-year-old. My sister's husband was also a premature birth, but you'd never know it to look at him!

As long as your doctor says the fetus is healthy, you should be OK.

Good luck!

my oldest boy now 11yrs old was born at 35 weeks, he was a big boy and had to be delivered by c-section, the doctors said he wouldn't weigh more than 5Lbs well when he came out he was a whopping 7Lbs 10oz's. I was like OMG had i carried him to 40 weeks he might have been a 10Lb baby.
He is now happy and healthy and has had few medical problems, mostly allergies. Most babies born at 36 weeks are born relatively healthy and can breath on their own.

I had my fifth baby at 35 weeks, she was fine, just a little small (5 lbs 2 oz from memory) and had very slight jaundice (didn't need treatment). She came home with me on day three and by the time she was six weeks old you wouldn't even know she was early.

36 weeks is considered full term these days. I would not even consider the baby to be premature.

I was in preterm labor at 32 weeks... they put me on steroids to strenthen her lungs really quick.. and told me to quit my job for the time being and be on bedrest.
On week 35 day 6... 3 in the morning, my water broke as I flopped over to the other side of the bed because my hubby was snoring too loud (which they say that most womens' waters don't break, but thank god mine did as i had been having contractions for a month prior to all of this).
I woke him up and he rushed to get his clothes on while I slowly took my time.
He was looking at me in shock as i did my hair, makeup, packed my bag and took as much time as possible. I was in no pain, no fear, but I had a "rush going through me."
We left for the hospital about 4:30 after I called the hospital and told them I was feeling great but my water had broke and told them to call me when they were ready for me.
The lady must have thought I was crazy, and told me to come in immediately.
They started my contractions at the hospital at 6 with pitocin..
I started having small backpain and cramps, not the usual contactions I had been feeling in my stomach for the past couple of weeks, so I didnt think nothing of it.
The backpain got worse and worse, and I thought, "Oh my god, if my contractions hurt as bad as my back does, I dont know HOW I'm gonna handle real labor.
My hubby decided to take a nap on the couch beside me, and I was in so much pain right now I was pissed at him. I threw everything that I could reach at him, my water cup, remote, etc. lol.
The nurse came in after my monitor started to beep constantly, and then a whole rush of other medical staff came in there.
They told me the babys heartrate was dropping and I needed to shift positions.
They had me roll from one side to another, and then had me get on all fours.
By then I was asking for the epidural, and when they checked my cervix (mind you, I'm still on all fours being rocked back and forth by 3 nurses) they flopped me back over on my back and I commented about how I had to take a crap, and they said, "Nope, you're 10 cm. dialated, its time to push." My doctor barely came in time to scrub in and help catch the baby.
I was confused. I was suppposed to have a long labor with a nice relaxing epidural. I was NOT planning on a natural birth!
The lady told me that my backpain was contractions, which is also called back labor.
Well, at 7:10 a.m., only an hour after I recieved the pitocin, I gave birth to a beautiful 5 lb. 5 oz. little girl.
She was little, but we barely made it to the "full term labor."
She lost a little weight while in the hospital and we left the hosptial when she was 4 lb. 11 ozs. but they still let us take her home even though her weight had dropped below the required weight to take her home.

I did give birth prematurely, and it was scary, but the nurses and staff were so patient and nice with me.. and get this, I didnt cry! lol.
She was little, she could fit in both of my hubby's hands.
Now she is a huge 20 lb. 8 month old... and very active! lol.

Best of wishes to you, and hope that you dont have to wait too long to get your little one!
