Just as a correction, a machine readable passport DOES NOT necessarily contain an RFID "chip" as alluded to by other answers. That's what's known as an electronic passport. The Philippines does not presently issue such an electronic passport. Machine readable simply means that there is a section (mostly on the declaration page) where a pattern (in the form of a barcode, text or other symbol) is printed that can be read/scanned by an optical device. The pattern is decoded by the machine and this data is then compared to data stored on a server in real-time to validate the identity of the passport holder. The data being compared will obviously include name, DOB, issue location and date and other vital statistics. The machine readable pattern will obviously not include a photograph but a photograph from the server will be shown to the immigration officer, which he will use to compare to the photo printed on the passport itself. The main difference between a machine readable and an electronic passport is that the latter stores all this information in an RFID circuit chip and this data (which may indeed contain a digitized photo and even more pertinent information about the holder) is transmitted to the server using radio frequencies instead of light. It is much more difficult to forge an electronic passport. The data stored in the chip will also be strongly encrypted and can only decrypted by a unique keyset. However, forging a machine readable passport is as easy as forging a regular passport as long as the counterfeiter can faithfully reproduce the printed pattern. That process would be impossible with an electronic passport as you can't just reprogram an RFID chip without very specialized equipment.

There was a programme on last night ..about the readable passport .. it was about some fire at the Governments Nosey Passport reading centre .. and the new Europe information sharing system - Schengen Information System - seemingly its knackered due to a fire and it wont be up and running again till 2011. so you can relax for a couple of years.. Seemingly your passport can hold this type of info -
Family name
First name
Possible objective and permanent physical characteristics
First letter of the second first name
Date of birth
Birthplace
Sex
Nationality
Any aliases they may be using
If the person in question was armed
If the person in question was violent
Reason for the alert
Action to be taken
Lost, stolen or misappropriated firearms
Lost, stolen or misappropriated identity documents
Lost, stolen or misappropriated blank identity documents
Lost, stolen or misappropriated motor vehicles
Lost, stolen or misappropriated banknotes

The MRP holds no data. It consists of some fairly obvious constituants (name, dob, ppt no etc).
Do you refer to the digital ppts with the chip? Again, no info other than than on the document.

Your signature - that is why when you applied for passport it had to be signed within the box, they scan and put on microchip on passport.
