A vet has moved in next door and she has six cats, That I don't have a problem with, however since her arrival I have cat droppings in my garden constantly! I don't own animals because I don't want the responsibility of cleaning their mess. I also have a curious one year old and if she found mess she'd probably pick it up and catch something, this should'nt be are problem!
Why are cats allowed to roam and do what they want? Dogs cant!
Whats the best way to rid myself of the unwanted felines?
Without shooting them or maiming please. Although tempting, thats not my style.

You can order pellets of lion dung off the internet or from garden centres. That way they think a bigger cat is around and don't dare come in. My mum tried it and it works!

The citrus peel won't work outside, too much open air. However moth balls (not flakes, those melt in the rain too fast) will work by smell alone, but if you have your baby out there, then that's probalby not the best.

Right now you've got dirt that looks darn good to any cat (and they may NOT be the vet's cats either) who needs to go to the bathroom. Since cats won't poop or pee voluntarily near a food or water source, the easiest thing I can recommend to you (and this is from personal experience) is to put down a reliable water bowl for them to drink out of, and keep it filled with fresh water, changing it every other day. A small bowl of dry cat food will also enhance this, since you're doing a double whammy and the cats will go one yard over to poop.

Though personally I find that pee and poop from cats made my front yard flower garden grow like a jungle. The cats covered their business up in there, so we didn't have the smell, but the plants loved the fertilizer and just shot up great. Our food/water bowls are in the back yard and the ONLY poop we ever get back there is from possums and an occasional raccoon (and raccoons poop stinks to high heaven). They don't abide by the 'no poop by the food' rule and will do it 20 feet from the bowls. But the cats won't.

There are sprays and things you can put on your garden to dissuade cats from using your garden. If I were in your position though I would have a word with your neighbour and ask if it is possible for her to use litter trays in her own garden because of the problem they are causing in yours. As for why are cats allowed to roam? You can't stop them, they are free spirits and independent.

You cannnot do anything about it, I have asked the police about this before as I was coincerned about my cats wandering into neighbours gardens, and tghey even said that a cat is a free spirit and allowed to roam as it feels. It cannot be controlled by its owner because its not in a cats nature. All you can do is try the tips the others have given you here. Good luck.

Orange peel in your garden. Cat's don't do it in there own garden so the do tend to use the neighbours. They hate the smell of Orange peel, I mean water bottle's are a good way too if you want to sit up all night.

Sprinkle Hot Chilli Powder around the affected areas, but you'll have to keep your child away from where you've sprinkled.

If that doesn't work try some Cumin Powder mixed with black pepper.

Well, you could try a garden sprinkler as they hate water, lemon or orange peelings as they hate citrus, or maybe just invite them over, sounds silly but if they get to like you they will claim your garden as their territory and they wont mess on their territory, i mean you wouldnt mess on your carpet now would you?
Best of luck,
Amanda!

I work at a Agway, ( farm store) and they have these things that you hook to the hose, and when the cat ( or other unwanted animals) walks near it, it will spray water...harmless, and cats will hate it...good luck
