The dollar is worth nothing, Americans are hated everywere and have lots of enemies ( besides the fact that they dress horribly!!) its infrastructure is lousy, has no trains, no social security, maybe they earn more than europeans but also spend more, they live 16 hours a day in their car whiole here in europe you dont even need one since transport is so good, food is lousy, cities are horrendous, all made of paper, no castles or palaces or nothing..

dont you think is a little overpriced to live there?

I think that you do a bit of exaggerating.

You are picking on the bad aspects and exaggerating them as well.

You did not mention what country you are from. I could find bad things about your country as well if I was just interested in finding fault.

I wish I had more of the dollars that you claim are worth nothing.

We we are certainly not perfect, we have one of the best and perhaps the best democracy in he world. We have the major principles of democracy as enunciated by Thomas Jefferson and others. We have improved our form of government by democratic and non-violent means since 1789. Our Presidents relinquish power peacefully when their time of office is up.

We have without selfishness tried to make the world safe for democracy in WWI and in World War II. Our dress is informal not stiff and our dress does not depend on social class the way it does in many nations. We do not as a general rule live in cars, But we do have then by choice to a greater degree than many other countries. We do have Social Security. As a matter of fact I collect it myself. Food is not lousy and we easily partake of food from all nations.

We do not have too many castles and palaces because we do not believe in royalty. We do have many outstanding buildings and natural wonders such as the Grand Canyon.

We are one of the richest countries in the world and have great humanitarian efforts to aide others without seeking to conquer them.

In short, we are not perfect but we always seem to get better.

There are so many flaws with your question/rant. Have you ever lived here? It doesn't seem that you have.
First off the Dollar is still worth as much as it always has. It has lost first place to the Euro but it hasn't lost any value, I still buy as much with my dollar today and if fuel will go back down we will be just fine. The infrastructure isn't lousy either you don't see many problems and we have trains in every major city as well as Amtrac. What the issue is here is that it isn't logical for a country of this size and in the way we are built to have trains go everywhere, people don't ride them they prefer to fly or drive. Our interstates are hardly rivaled by any country in the world. Oh and we have social security for every person who reaches the age of 62 so I am not sure where you got that tid bit that we don't have social security. Who says we live 16 hours a day in a car? In little bitty countries such as yours you don't need a car but remember that in states like Texas you can travel 3 days and never leave the state. We have some of the best food in the world you haven't been to Texas for bbq have you? You don't need to spread creame and cheese on everything...you have been listening to talk and not come for yourself to find out. There is every ethnic food in the world here. Our cities are just fine as well and none of them are made of paper. You don't need castles and palaces here we don't have kings or queens nor do we want them...the only one we would have had of the whole lot of you is Princess Diana and she is gone thanks to the press and your queen.
No we aren't overpriced here the houses in your country are overpriced. Have you tried looking at the prices of things here compared to the sq ft of what you get there for the price? You might be suprised.
I can buy a house in Georgia(a state here since you don't have a clue) and I can buy a nice house for under 200,000 dollars and the house is more than 2500 sq feet.
get over yourself I feel some jealousy on your part.

Well, as many have said, visiting Europe is one thing, but living there is a whole different ball game. When I went to visit Italy, I met a lady who worked at a dry cleaners. She told me flat out, "If you're an average person, Italy's a hard place to live."

Besides, I found the people in Italy very snooty and rude.

I won't address some of your other comments about the USA, cause they're ridiculously incorrect.

One thing you do have right is regarding our USA food. It's pretty bad.
Visiting italy, my salivary glands would always sting when I ate European food, because everything I ate burst with flavor

OK, America is a melting pot of people, but no I disagree with you. I think it is a great place to live, We don't dress terribly - you know we do have malls and "Not what to wear on TLC"!!!

The train system is not too bad, and there is a social security system in place (not as comphensive as the UK) On a note of health care they have the best doctors in the world and hospital but you need health care insurance!!!

I don't know about you but I don't live in my car for 16 hours a day! Do you??

Food is well food.

America is still a young country when you compare it's history to that of Europe and England. But, it is no way boring - Go to Williamsburg, Washington DC, New York and you can see history lots of it, and America is proud of where and how they started their country.

It is cheaper in some way to live here, gas is a lot less than in the UK, housing is cheaper than the UK, food is cheaper than the UK, taxes are less than what we pay in UK. Do you get the picture now???

So do I like living here? YES

And, yes I miss the UK, but would I want to go back and live...and wait three weeks for a doctor's appointment, try to find a NHS dentist to a check up, (Thats like looking for a needle in a haystack!), spending 17.5% VAT (tax) on items I buy....I think I will stay here in the States

I live in Europe 6 months per year.Yes, it is beautiful but life is hard over here for the average person even more so than in the USA.
They do have great transportation but at more than $6.oo per gallon for gas, they better have.
Besides there is no place like home. America is my first love. The only reason I am choosing to live in Europe is that my husband came from over here and as we are getting older, we have lowered our expectations about life.
Young people over here really have it much harder to get a good career going.Everyone has a good education so it is very competative for the good jobs here.
The dollar is very low, true but if you can't afford to come here, then you shouldn't be here.If we don't travel from the Us, maybe they will miss us and do something to get us to visit over here. they do just want to tourist dollar just like anywhere else. People are greedy all over the world not just in the US.
I agree with Mia above me. It is dirty here. They clean the streets every couple of days but drunks pee all over the place and so do the dogs. It smells! They also dress pretty much like in the states. Not so dressy any more. Too bad, that was one thing they had going for them!

Because people still think (ignorantly) that America is the greatest country on the planet. The truth is we as humans equally suck. All of our countries suck. Our monetary systems suck. And the worst part is the majority population sits by while the minority gets away with murder (literally and figuratively).

The reason people still want to live here is because this country allows them to be cowards, absolves the general public of all responsibility for their shittyness and overall caters to the mediocre. The standard of success has been intentionally decreased over many generations with the intent of controlling the masses. This is obvious to any free thinking individual...unfortunately those people are few and far between.

Wow.... there is some real arrogance going on here, from both side.

And not everything boils down to cars and money... what about culture, attitudes of people, government, etc? These are the important things that make a country a nice place to live or not.

Given how many Americans are on prozac I have to say these big cars and yummy foods are obviously not that special.

And MIA, just wanted to point out that the weather in America is only nice in some places, and the weather in Europe is only bad in some places... and what you are b*tching about is true of all major cities- New York included. Europe is full of countries that are as different from each other as the states on America.

And Maxx, not everyone is jealous of Americans- and the more you say things like that, the more the rest of the world thinks "oh shut up and get over yourself".

Let's all just get over ourselves. Our countries are different, but it's not about being better, we usually just prefer what we are used to and so it's completely meaningless to sit here saying "my country is better than yours" back and forth.

I lived in Europe for 6 months.. and I was done!!!!!
The weather is horrible hehehehhe sorry... but it is true. People are Rude.... there is dog poop in the streets... and the subway is just a big open bathroom where people pee and vomit... or sleep... I couldn't stand the smokers... Every pub in the winter is packed with people smoking those disgusting cigarettes. French people don't shower hehehe . It seems they don't like to work on the weekends... you can't find a supermarket or pharmacy opened on sundays. And one more thing... also some of them dress horribly !
So.... Are you asking why would anyone want to live in america!?
I couldn't live in Europe!

Because of living and working in America is much better than living anywhere else that is why the US immigration department has imposed stricter policy who like to work there.

The dollar is worth something if that is the only thing you will argue about. Yes definitely Americans are hated everywhere but that is not the point in going to the US for yourself i presume, you are going there to live and work. Who said the infrastructure is lousy? Have you live there? I do not live in the US but looking at cities brochures example like Chicago and New York skyscrapers will definitely make you stay. Who said there are no trains, they have sub-way trains so definitely there is trains there in the US. There is social security, what country are you in? India or Afghanistan? You hate the US that much.

If all that is so true, than why do we have so many people trying to come here to live? If you would be visiting here on the 4th of July and happen to take in the ceremony where immigrants become American citizens (say for example at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello-which seems to be a popular place); you would see a broad spectrum of humanity. People from Europe, Africa, Asia, from all over the world.
So we must be doing SOMETHING right!
If you don't like the U.S. don't come here. If you don't like Americans, why ask anything about them on Yahoo? Leave us alone.
