Sonfai81: So you are saying some people lack the control necessary to be decent without the threat of an authority figure in the shape of a God...that may be true and it's very sad.

cheir: most politicians these days are waving their religious credentials about like status symbols instead of keeping their convictions private and quietly observing them.

It just does. We are not burdened. We make our own rules.

We have to solve our problems by ourselves rather than having someone else do it for us. Sure it may require some work but if we manage to do it then we'll deserve to be around. It will also make us the species that is in charge of this planet, not some alien.
Then there's the fact that we don't need to waste time praying or going to church. Nature may not be nice but it is a lot less fickle than the imaginary friends of the deluded and doesn't require inane rituals that don't work.
But most important of all is the truth. Accepting the truth whatever it may be will make all of our lives better because that way we can do what actually should be done, not what we'd prefer to do without regard for whether it actually helps.

Look around yourself at the beauty and complexity of life. REALLY look. Check out the bees. See how they create the wax that they make their honeycombs from. See them flying from one flower to the next, collecting pollen to make the honey. See how that process is also taken advantage of by the flowers, who use it to cross-breed.
Now why do you need a 'God' to appreciate it any more?
If the world stopped believing in a 'God', an afterlife and literal interpretations of scripture, we could:
a) appreciate life - it is finite. You are not going to any heaven afterward, so DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE WHILE YOU CAN!!
b) eat meat on Fridays. And ignore other such silly 'rules'.
c) not worry so much about being killed because we believe in the wrong 'God'.
d) I could go on all day, but I have things to do. You get the picture.
Please read Richard Dawkins' book "The God Delusion" for a much more enlightening take on this whole matter.

The concept is like a kid who thinks that with his parent's backs turned, he can gorge himself in the cookie jar because that's what seems right and fun to him personally. He's then sick as a dog because what he didn't realise was that the parent put restrictions on the cookies for the kid's own benefit. As adults, we think that without God our lives will be better because we can do what we want all the time without guilt. The consequences are drunkeness, STD's, economic strain, coldness etc.

"Having created the world and all that liveth and moveth therein, He, through the direct operation of His unconstrained and sovereign Will, chose to confer upon man the unique distinction and capacity to know Him and to love Him-a capacity that must needs be regarded as the generating impulse and the primary purpose underlying the whole of creation...Upon the inmost reality of each and every created thing He hath shed the light of one of His names, and made it a recipient of the glory of one of His attributes. Upon the reality of man, however, He hath focused the radiance of all of His names and attributes, and made it a mirror of His own Self. Alone of all created things man hath been singled out for so great a favor, so enduring a bounty."

How do I interpret your idea that there is no God? Atheistic seems to come to mind. And does atheism make our lives better - not if the politicians are an example.

I don't care what your background is, if you can answer this question, then you need not worry about anything else: Who created the Big Bang? Good luck.
