God created both. God created man in His image from dirt, and a woman from a man. Look at some of the implications. Would you rather be designed from flesh or from dirt? Look where the ribs are, they are right near the heart. Plus there is another way of looking at this. How do we know that "rib" is not a substitution for another word. Like what if they had some vague notion of chromosomes but lacked the language to describe them. Men to this day lack a part of the 23rd chromosome.

As for why men and women have the same number of ribs now, well, this was a one-time act. Removing body parts does not change the germ line. All future men and women would have the same number of ribs.

Plus there is one other fact here that a lot of people do not realize. Ribs can regenerate. As long as the periosteum is left intact, ribs can be removed and regrow.

If you believe God created man, he also created woman. How he did it is his affair. He created Adam from the dust of the Earth. Is that unfair? Should he have done it with something else? Who are we to complain and why does it matter how he did it? I think he did a pretty good job personally. Similarly, if he made woman from Adam's rib, so be it. It's neither fair or unfair, it's just how it happened.

This question is indicative of humans as a whole though. Read the Bible, accept the bit that seems pleasing to you, but if you come across something that seems 'unfair' or not to your taste, create a whole (false) explanation of your own. The truth is what it is. Accept all of God's word or none of it.

I'm a Muslim Girl and i completely agree with aisha_just_aisha .. she really said what it would take me pages to explain to you how woman is equaled to man in Islam .. Woman in Islam is protected, appreciated and respected .. she has her own money , her own work (yes she can go to work if she wants) and her own will to do whatever she wants just like a man .. I also would like to say that Islam is the only religion that says "Marry only one" .. no other religion says so .. and the verse is : 4:3 "And if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three, or four but IF YOU FEAR YOU SHALL NOT BE ABLE TO DEAL JUSTLY(with them), THEN ONLY ONE or (the captives and the slaves) that your right hands possess. That is nearer to prevent you from doing injustice" 4:129 "You will never be able to do perfect justice between wives even if it is your ardent desire, so do not incline too much to one of them so as to leave the other hanging. And if you do justice, and do all that is right and fear Allah by keeping away from all that is wrong, then Allah is Ever Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful" so .. from the two verses the conclusion is one wife .. because Allah says it's allowed to marry till 4 if you are just .. but no man wil ever be just .. so it's only one .. about why a woman can't marry 4 husbands while a man can .. i can tell you a brief answer which is : 1. sexual desire is greater at men than women .. 2. in the future and as we can see now .. women will outnumber men .. and their will be women without husbands .. so this way they can get married and protected from being prostitutes .. 3. scientifically proved: woman with different sexual relationship at the same time gets womb-cancer .. 4. it was harder back then to decide who is the father of the child .. but when a woman is marrying one man is easier.. if you want more .. you can contact me and send me your email to send you a pdf document answering the most common questions about Islam including questions about: Hijab (Veil), spread by Sword, Pork meat, Sectors of Islam, Polygamy (man marrying four Wives) .. ,etc

God created both Adam and Eve so God in his unique way created women as well.

You either believe that or not. If you don't believe well.......
I would feel very empty if I didn't believe.

God created Adam from dust. God created Lilith from dirt and filth. Adam ordered Lilith to lay under him but she refused and God banished her. God then created the First Eve from flesh, bones, blood and skin but this repulsed Adam so much that God took the First Eve away. God then took a rib from Adam as he slept and created the Second Eve with whom Adam was pleased because she did as he said. Either that or biology and evolution.

It seems that man is a stripped down version of woman. Such as having non-functioning breasts. It seems that woman came first and she was reproducing asexually. Slowly , when things got complicated due to evolution, woman became man by not having female reproductive organs or having modified organs.
