My husband and I are moving to Hanau, Germany with the Us Army in around Novemeber. Does anyone know about financing this, places that I could attend school, and has anyone ever gotten their LVN/LPN or BSN overseas. If anyone could please let me know it would be awesome. Thanks.

I meant does anyone know about financing school. Is there options available to military spouses. I'm really interested in the nursing field.

dont be surpised if once you get to Germany they send you somewhere else. Hanau has horrible housing and they have shut down a few places on Hanau.

University of Maryland is a great college and they work well with the military. I would fill out your FAFSA now so that way it is ready for you when the next term starts. UMUC (university of maryland university college goes through 7-8 week terms not as long as here in the states).

Besides the FAFSA here is some other advice:

- check out the spouses clubs. They usually give out scholarships but sometimes they only do it once a year. That is the way Giebelstadt, Germany, did it. You will usually have to fill out a essay and turn that in.

- Check out this website:

They offer a grant for those spouses that live overseas with their spouses. I used it for 2 years while I was there. It really came in handy.

- Look into CLEP exams, they don't cost as much as a regular class but they aren't free either (active duty members can take them for free).

Here is a link to Hanau:

http://www.hanau.army.mil/hanauweb/04_services/education.asp
http://www.hanau.army.mil/hanauweb/04_services/edu_coll.asp this link has the colleges that are there. You can email them now and see what you need to get started. So that way you can take it with you and not pack it.

Hope this helps. BTW, take advantage of the travel. Look into RyanAir: http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/ really cheap airfare, sometimes for a penny a ticket (you do have to pay taxes on it). Explore Europe, and don't just sit at home. Explore Germany, it is awesome. A good book to buy would be "Never a Dull Moment" This book lists almost every village in Germany and what you can do there, how much, when they are open, restuarants, shops, amusement parks, etc., and even directions. Here is a link to its homepage:

have fun in Germany, I know we would go back tomorrow if we could.

there will be an education center on base. you might be able to knock out the core requirements, but getting your clinicals done might be difficult. There are no BSN or LPN programs available from the base colleges. whether or not a German one would be acceptable Stateside, I don't know.. plus the whole needing to be fluent in German thing.

you would fill out the FAFSA just like everybody else, and there are additional scholarships available from various organization on base. Most notably, the Spouses Club typically offers several per term, usually enough to cover one class's tuition.

You and your family will be well compensated for your move. On education, I completed two BAs and an MA while stationed in Germany as a Soldier. You have numerous opportunities. Additionally, you have excellent German universities where your can study for little or no cost. There are in-theater American schools, but distance learning is available as well.

If you have the drive and the time, you can do it. Check with your education center as soon as you arrive.
