The philosophical question "What is the pirpose or meaning of life?" means different things to different people. The vagueness of the query is inherent in the word "meaning", which opens the question to many interpretations, such as: "What is the origin of life?", "What is the nature of life (and of the universe in which we live)?", "What is the significance of life?", "What is valuable in life?", and "What is the purpose of, or in, (one's) life?". These questions have resulted in a wide range of competing answers and arguments, from scientific theories, to philosophical, theological, and spiritual explanations.

These questions are separate from the scientific issue of the boundary between things with life and inanimate objects.

"What is the meaning of life?" is a question many people ask themselves at some point during their lives, most in the context "What is the purpose of life?" Here are some of the many potential answers to this perplexing question. The responses are shown to overlap in many ways but may be grouped into the following categories:

Survival and temporal success
...to live every day like it is your last and to do your best at everything that comes before you
...to be always satisfied
...to live, go to school, work, and die

...to advance technological evolution, or to actively develop the future of intelligent life
...to compete or co-operate with others
...to destroy others who harm you, or to practice nonviolence and nonresistance
...to gain and exercise power
...to leave a legacy, such as a work of art or a book
...to eat

...to spend life in the pursuit of happiness, maybe not to obtain it, but to pursue it relentlessly.

...to observe the ultimate fate of humanity to the furthest possible extent
...to seek happiness and flourish, experience pleasure or celebrate

...to attempt to have many sexual conquests (as in Arthur Schopenhauer's will to procreate)
...to find and take over all free space in this "game" called life
...to seek and find beauty
...to kill or be killed
...No point. Since having a point is a condition of living human consciousness. Animals do not need a point to live or exist. It is more of an affliction of consciousness that there are such things as points, a negative side to evolutionary development for lack of better words.

...to achieve a supernatural connection within the natural context
...to achieve enlightenment and inner peace
...to become like God, or divine
...to glorify God
...to experience personal justice (i.e. to be rewarded for goodness)

...to understand and follow the "Word of God"
...to discover who you are
...to resolve all problems that one faces, or to ignore them and attempt to fully continue life without them, or to detach oneself from all problems faced

Philosophical
...to give life meaning
...to participate in the chain of events which has led from the creation of the universe until its possible end (either freely chosen or determined, this is a subject widely debated amongst philosophers)
...to know the meaning of life
...to achieve self-actualisation
...all possible meanings have some validity
...life in itself has no meaning, for its purpose is an opportunity to create that meaning, therefore:
...to die
...to simply live until one dies (there is no universal or celestial purpose)
...nature taking its course (the wheel of time keeps on turning)
...whatever you see you see, as in "projection makes perception"
...there is no purpose or meaning whatsoever

True meaning comes from living for a true purpose. True purpose essentially asks why we were put on this earth. What is our mission for which we were sent? Obviously, true purpose requires a God.

Those who reject God have also rejected true meaning. Their answers about meaning answer a different question. The question they answer is, how can we get through this life without being overwhelmed by the pointlessness of it all? Various psychological crutches - keep busy, focus on the positive, do things to inflate self esteem.

But if we accept that there may be a God, it seems to me that seeking God is far more important than seeking meaning for finding God encompasses meaning and everything else.

So I seek God even though I'm not sure He even exists. I think that is what faith is.

That is the question of all questions that man has always asked himself.
What if there is no death? Death is a word used by man to describe the end of your time here.
I think that we are like babies here and need this time to grow spiritually.
What if life is like a never ending road and this is only the start of what is to come. Or maybe death is like a birth of our real spiritual life.
No mater what people say no one really knows. We have all questioned life and death at one point.
I like many others have my ideas.
I know one thing for sure..No one book has all the answers.

The meaning of life and death can't be answered in a few words. Besides it's different for everyone. Why does it have to be either/or?? God created or big bang theory? Couldn't it be both? Isn't it possible that they are interconnected? I think so....Blessings!

No one can tell what there is, for sure, because no one knows. It's called Faith. I'm Catholic, I believe in God, and Heaven. I can't tell you the meaning of life and death - I don't think anyone can. You have to believe in what YOU want. You can research and learn about all different religions, but they're all connected somehow. You just have to open your mind and learn.

The meaning of life is to enjoy the crazy rollercoaster before it ends and to really love it without looking back, bacause it really only happens once. And the meaning of death is that god wants that person to be his angel.

And personally, in my opinion, i think there is no hell. Because if God supposobly accepts and forgives everyone for who they are, why would he send anybody to hell??? Heavin is the eternal happiness.

What Is The Purpose

of Your Life?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Serious question. Why laugh about it? Why not take off the to-cool-to-care mask for a few minutes? Answer that question and you'll find out some extremely important things about yourself. Really…

It's amazing how much corporate and educational America teaches that "we must have a goal and a purpose" for whatever they are about. Every where you look there are mission statements and goal statements and objective statements, etc. With all that focus on a purpose, isn't it amazing that it never really gets down to the individual and his/her life? Oh yes, an individual person can have short term and long term goals for careers or family or education or finances or hobbies or exercise, etc. Perhaps you have some for yourself regarding these things. But the question remains, WHAT ABOUT YOUR ENTIRE LIFE - WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE PURPOSE TO THAT??? Are you going to take, trophies or bank accounts or homes or cars or careers or family members or pleasure or "fun" times, with you after you die? What will your life mean after you die?

So, what is the ultimate purpose to your life? What is your mission / goal / objective / purpose statement for your life? You’ll know what it is if you’ll just spend the time to ask and answer these extremely important questions. Here are two questions that will tell you what your purpose in life is:
