I have just been diagnosed with Labrynthitis, and I was wondering what the rule of thumb was for working out with this condiditon. I am very physically active (ie. martial arts and wieght training) and would like to remain so. I dont want my labrynthits to completely take over my life, but i dont want to harm myself further, by being uninformed either.

If your balance is affected, then working out needs to be halted until your balance is restored. There is too great a risk for injury....particularly with weight lifting! If you are receiving physical therapy to help regain your balance, ask your therapist if and when you can start working out again. If you are not receiving therapy, you may be doing well enough to resume but will need to clear it with your doctor.

I am currently in similar straits. I suffered vestibular neuritis in mid June. I still have some balance issues and have not yet been cleared to return to my workout schedule. Neither my physical therapist nor my doctor will approve it. I have been given permission to resume fast/power walking next month so already have it scheduled with my personal trainer.

I have been told that my residual balance issues may take a year to resolve and, worse yet, may never be normal again....only time will tell. Hope you are soon back to normal!

Once could be coincidence, twice suggests cause and effect. Of course, you have no control over what you buy, either of strength or quality so it's difficult to say how you can prevent this from happening again.
