It seems that you don't know any real preachers. Anyone who wants easy money will never be a preacher because being a preacher is not easy. A preacher is a teacher, helper, advisor, comforter, warrior and role model all at once. He visits the sick, prays for the discouraged and worried, and every single time there is a problem or conflict in the church, guess who's likely to get blamed? Everyone in church goes to him for spiritual guidance and prayer and if he happens to be too busy to see someone, he is likely to be criticized. He and his family are always the center of attention, he is supposed to be a role model, and people tend to forget that he is, after all, human. he gets tired and weary. The preacher is given the job of leading his church in the direction that God wants them to go. At times, that direction isn't clear to others. He has to make controversial decisions and is likely to be criticized no matter what he chooses. He knows he must give his people the spiritual truths that they need to hear, not what they want to hear. And he must have a deep personal relationship with God, otherwise, he'll never have enough love for all the people surrounding him. Through it all, he must have time for his family and often, time for a part-time job. I'd say that with all that my preacher does for me, I can certainly give away one-tenth of my income, of which he will only get a small percent, since there is rent to be paid for the church building and other church elders who also receive payment. Being a preacher is a rewarding job but the reward is not money.
I am sorry that you feel tricked. Perhaps, you were tricked and perhaps the preachers you've met are really only after your money. But try to believe that they're not all like that. God loves you and there are real preachers out there whose main purpose is to spread God's love through words and by example.

You can tell your preacher that the giving of ten percent of your earnings was under the Mosaic Law Covenant. Jesus was the last sacrificial lamb or the lamb of GOD.
When he died he ended the old law covenant and started a new law covenant with all the peoples of the nations. You no longer had to be a Jew to be accepted by God or have to follow the old law covenant.
Romans 10:4, 10:11 Gal 3:19
The Mosaic law stands today as simply principles to go by and was a tuter to the coming of Jesus Gal 3:24 Heb 10:1
Luke 16:16.

Be sure to read these and read them slow if you have a translation from the 1610 King James Version.
If you don't understand that version I would be happy to send you a new Bible. It will Be
" The New World Translation " in modern English so you can understand whats being said.

Sincerely yours,
Fred M. Hunter

This question is very very difficult. Undoubtedly there are sincere and honest preachers, but at the same time the are many many deceivers. For them a church is a very good trough ( feeder ). Many people by nature disposed to contribute. No matter what the reasons are. I don't want to discuss the reasons now. Deceivers have learned to use it in their purposes. They can preach even with one purpose - to please listeners so that they contributed money more willingly. I think there is no need to convince you that they don't care much to follow God's Word in exactness and all fullness. Do you know how much money people contribute. I read that in some sects people give away apartments, cars and big sums of money. I think that this is the truth. Activities of a church is unknown. I know, there are many small churches that don't have big income, but there are very big churches. To my opinion, the income of preachers and priests must be public. I read that one priest spent 26000 dollars USA only for a recreation with his wife. I shall not name religion representatives of what strike deals and don't pay taxes, but it is a fact of common knowledge. I know that there were organization collecting money allegedly for help injured or hungry people. I think that transparency of church in money matters is the deed of future, but it is necessary.

People that preach that tithing is a universal "requirement" for "loving God" are wrong...especially if they suggest that tithing has anything to do with whether or not a person is
going to heaven!

But I don't think it is wrong to tell people that God will reward them for giving nor do I think it is wrong to tell people that tithing is one way to demonstrate your love for God. The bible promises in many different places that God will give earthly AND heavenly rewards for giving. I have heard many stories from people that chose to express their gratitude to God by giving 10% back to him and then receive an unexpected reward such as a salary increase or a new job that cause their income to increase by more than the amount they gave! God even tells us to test him on promises about giving.

In my mind, it doesn't matter what the "church" is actually doing with the money, at least not in terms of my own decision to give. Pastors and other church members that decide how the money is spent will answer to God for how it is actually spent. If I believe my church is doing what God would have them do AND I believe the people that spend the money are seeking God's will then I believe God wants me to support that work financially. If I don't believe they are being "wise stewards" of the money I give, I'm compelled to find another place to offer my gift.

first of all, God does not need your money. Second, God does not want a tither with a bad attitude. That is useless to Him. People tithe because they want to. Not because they are forced to do it. In my church only members are asked to tithe and only if they can do it cheerfully. Because of this, our church is full for 3 services every Sunday. Our congregation is generous and is blessed by their giving. No one can outgive God. Our money is carefully used for the running of the church and mission projects. We are given a down to the penny accounting of all that is given and spent. I think that is how it should be. If you go to a church that hassles you for cash find another.

Looks like you need to find a place where the word of God is free and fellow believers help each other. There is one where no collections are taken. This one answers all your questions from God's word. It also gives free bible study, and everyone learns the truth of the bible. All are in agreement and all believe in one true God.
If you think this is a joke, you are wrong, just ask a question that you have always wanted to know and see if you will get a true answer from God's word. gemhandy@gmail.com

You prolly know the story of the widows mite. And that also reminds me of the young nobleman who asked Christ what he lacked in getting to heaven- which was to give away all his riches and serve God. The principle being taught here is sacrificing your self and your life to worship God. Once that is truly apart of you, it doesn't matter how poor you are, you'd have attained a righteousness few can claim. I'm not to that point that's for sure. But really, 10% going to God can replace the 10% we spend on the not so needed stuff; like movie rentals and ipod tunes, or dinners at restaurants. That helps us to be a little more financially disciplined too.

How do you know whether a preacher is more interested in money than in souls? It's very ignorant and arrogant of you to make such a claim about all preachers. It may be true in some cases, but all? I don't think so.
