No it is not too early and luckily you have given yourself enough time to save for it! I would say book your reception venue now, the sooner the better, and the rest can wait untill within a year of the wedding date. Here is a list of generally what you should do and when...

You can start now and begin working on your budget - any amount of money you can start putting away will only increase your chances of getting the wedding that you want. Depending on where you live, you may want to work on booking the location of your ceremony and reception as well as the officiant who will perform the ceremony. Then start making a guest list and deciding what type of decorations you want. Take the time to plan it slowly and you won't have so much to do or pay for in the time frame that most people usually do (approximately 1 year). Good luck & Best wishes for a beautiful wedding and happy life together.

I was engaged in July of '06 and I'm getting married in May of '08. We're graduating from grad school 2 weeks before the wedding. I started planning in January, so that's about a year and a half. I think that's plenty early. Much earlier than that and the vendors don't want to deal with you yet. I'm actually done with all of the big stuff. Start looking at what you want now, but wait a little while to start booking, unless you live in a big city where things might book rapidly.

You could start now if you really wanted to. As June is a popular wedding month, you definitely want to book your venues and vendors early as availability tends to be limited. If you know where you want to get married and where you want your reception as well as the officiant for the ceremony, entertainment for the reception, and catering for the reception, I'd schedule the date and time now. That way you know you will get what and who you want or at least have a much better chance.
Also, if you're not really sure what kind of details you want for the ceremony and reception, it doesn't hurt to start looking to get some ideas. I had a hard time deciding on the maids dresses, my dress, what the cake was going to look like, the style of invitation ( I ended up making my own and now have my own home-based business doing it as tons of people loved them!), and where to have the ceremony and reception. My fiance wasn't any help either. I had so many ideas, I couldn't decide what I liked the most.

Good luck and Congrats!

You can start saving and planning now if you want.

Look around for ceremony and reception sites and start reserving it, especially if you are planning it during a time when that site will be busy.

First pick a date or at least a month. Then look around for sites. Start setting aside a portion of your paycheck per month to go into a wedding account.

Don't plan anything til a year before the wedding. The first thing to do after that is to book the minister/church so you have a date firmed up, then you book the caterer, venue, and band. Those things need to be done the earliest, depending upon where you live.

My understanding is that it takes a while so better get started sooner than later. I would think that you need at least a year to get everything the way you want it. Lots of work so give yourself adequate time to do it in. By the way, congrats!
