HE was stationed in the Rose Barracks, Vilseck Germany and left at 5:00pm their time on Monday. He was supposed to get 2 15 minutes calls when they got there and I still ahve had no word. I am dying a little each day and jumping waiting for the phone to ring. Can anyone tell me how long it takes?

The first time my husband deployed out of Germany, it took 2 weeks to get a really quick phone call to tell me they had arrived. This time, it only took 1 week, as things are a little more stable and organized compared to then. I know that it is really hard to just wait for them to contact you.

They have a lot on their plate while in Kuwait, so he might just focus on catching up on sleep. Try not to worry, he'll contact you when he can. I know it's easier said than done, and I hate to say it, but no news is good news.

He might not call you at all until he gets to his final destination and everything calms down a bit. It is rather stressful until they've gotten settled in. I hope you'll hear from him soon.

it may take a week or more for you to actually here from them.

Just because his chain of command has good intentions before they deploy, in the form of allowing the soldiers time to make calls, doesn't mean thats going to happen. Unfortunatly, things change...services aren't available, timetables are moved..and what not.

generally say a day to get to Kuwait, a day or two of processing there, then movement into Iraq, then a whirlwind of activity for the first 96 hours at least.

after having worked longed days, it may be that they have 6 or less hours to catch some sleep before the next day begins.
so then it becomes a question of waiting in line to make a call or get some sleep.

another thing that can prevent calls is if there is a blackout in effect. If somebody was killed at the base where they are...then there is normally a blackout until the family members have been notified.

be willing to wait between a week or two. Trust me..he will call you just as soon as he can.

It takes awhile. They have to process through kuwait and go through some pretty boring stuff to get from point A to Point B. I know that it will be the hardest thing to do, but relax. Everything will be alright. I hope you can find peace and you will get a phone call before you know it. Good Luck

It can take weeks before they are in a position to have reliable access to phones and/or email.

you have to understand that there might be a dozen phones..for several hundred soldiers. He might not have the time nor the inclination to stand in line for 2 hours when he could be grabbing a shower or a bite to eat instead.
