By reading God's Word the Bible you will get to know him and reconfirm your faith making it strong, but you are right your reasons for berlieving are not really good, that is why it is urgent that you refresh Bible knowledge that will lead you to better and true faith, you cannot have faith without knowing God and by knowing God's truth found in his Word the Bible you can also know that there is no reason to fear hell at all God does not use threatening fear tactics or torture people for eternity.

First off you have to realize that there is no hell fire place of torment.
That is a pagan teaching brought into Christianity from outside sources and is NOT in the bible.

What the bible says hell is ,, is the grave ,thats all.
So whether a person is good or bad , eventually they will die and go to hell.

Even the bible character Job prayed that he could be released from his pain full trials and go to hell because it would be better for him.
Now if hellfire was true , then why would a good man want to be burnt at hell ?..and if so , how could that be better for him than his present trials. ??

So you see hell doesn't exist..so don't worry about that.-- BUT

You everlasting life is dependent upon serving the true God in a way that please him , anything less is not acceptable.

If you would like to know more on how to do this plz feel free to email me.

I'm an atheist, but I'll be nice.

This may come in handy for you. What you are talking about is Pascal's Wager, but in favor of Christianity.

Pascal's Wager - Richard Dawkins, "The God Delusion".

“The great French mathematician Blaise Pascal reckoned that [...] you'd better believe in God, because if you are right you stand to gain eternal bliss and if you are wrong it won't make any difference anyway. On the other hand, if you don't believe in God and you turn out to be wrong you get eternal damnation, whereas if you are right it makes no difference. On the face of it the decision is a no-brainer. Believe in God.

There is something distinctly odd about the argument, however. Believing is not something you can decide to do as a matter of policy. [...] I can decide to go to church and I can decide to recite the Nicene Creed, and I can decide to swear on a stack of bibles that I believe every word inside them. But none of that can make me actually believe it if I don't. Pascal's wager could only ever be an argument for feigning belief in God. And the God that you claim to believe in had better not be of the omniscient kind or he'd see through the deception.

What's so special about believing? Isn't it just as likely that God would reward kindness, or generosity, or humility? Or sincerity? What if God is a scientist who regards honest seeking after truth as the supreme virtue?"

Perhaps you just need to "be still and know that He is God." Listen for His voice. Live for Him rather than yourself.

Blessings to you!

seek to find him, close your eyes and ask God to show himself to you, so you may walk stronger in him.
