There are a lot of books out there. If you limit yourself to just one then ... you are a limited person.

The Bible is the only book you need for salvation and to actually learn about God. In all ways it is the best book ever written and just the sheer number of early translations and copies have been used to produce the new and generally reliable translations and interpretations. I actually have a Bible that has 4 different translations to help me understand some passages better.

An atlas to learn about where Jesus and Paul traveled is a good extra but many Bibles have maps etc.

C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity etc. etc. there are lots of ther good books but the Bible is the only one that you need for salvation. These other "revelations" from later "prophets" (Mormons etc....) distort the truth. For example the Qu'ran says Jesus (Isa) was born of a virgin, raised the dead and ascended to heaven it just ignores the FACT that Jesus was the son of God, died, paid for our sins, rose on the 3rd day AND THEN ascended to heaven and is the only sure way to heaven.

The question you asked isn't the one you want answered.

To answer the express question, a Christian would do well to familiarize themselves with the great books of the world. Limiting oneself to a single book would be limiting indeed.

To answer your real question, I'll pose a related question:

Why would you complain about receiving more of God's words IF they truly were God's words?

Judaism and Christianity share the Old Testament. All Christian sects share the New Testament. These books of Scripture are of immense value, and no one should minimize their worth. However, what if we find a new manuscript (perhaps among the Dead Sea Scrolls) which can be authenticated? Should that manuscript be added to the Bible?

Yes. The Bible is the only book the whole world needs. God not only wrote it for an individual to follow but also for the whole world to follow to live a long, healthy, happy and safe life on earth and then afterwords in Heaven. What book has mankind ever wrote that could top that?

Wow, Peoples answers are a little twieked! I say even if it is the only book you need, you would be a fool to only read one book. It's like saying that Principles of Physics is the only book you need on physics and then if some professor who has studied Principles of Physics all his life writes a book on his theories of physics and 1000 ways to undertsand it better and then you say "no thanks I'm covered I have Principles of Physics and thats all I need!". Think people! There are people out there (some of whom are smarter than all of us) reading the bible and then sharing thier wisdom with us by way of book. Soak up wisdom from those who are sharing!
P.S. even if your not a christian you should try reading the bible. It's full of great advice for life.

Read it 60 years ago, and in more detail with experts later. Don't believe it has changed - except in even more questionable translations than the St. James (which I enjoyed for the rhythm of the language). I can't imagine anyone being so mindless as to read only that one book - but they do, don't they, and still insist on Original Creation, and sin and guilt, and all the rest! Yet they mostly seem not to have studied it at all. No wonder we're in trouble in the Burning Bush's!

sense here has not been a original bible in hundreds of years you can simply throw what u have away. what is now existence is mostly falsehoods and stuff Prophet Isa ( Messiah)never said there recorded 50,000 errors in the bible. the Quran is the only book unchanged for 1400 years and is the final book and only true book you need in your life not a history book. or a book filled with errors.

Ridiculous! ...its the only book you need if you want to be narrow minded. Reading the bible does not make a person a righteous human, being righteous is in your actions. Religion may suit your needs if you dont mind being a slave/servant and believe what nonsense you are fed without question... then again, one persons nonsense is anothers truth...so if your faith makes your life more meaningful well good luck to you. I dont believe the bible is responsible for human values, and when religious texts are misinterpreted or taken too literally then they do more harm than good.

No, not the ONLY book. I would have been in pretty bad shape if I hadn't cracked open the ol' atlas when I was driving 'cross country last year. O_o

But seriously, it is the most important book by far. It's the road map to purpose.

nope...I also need textbooks and journals to do my job, I need all sorts of books to help me practice specific things I learn about in the bible...for example, I read something in the bible about a year ago that prompted me to begin exercising...and I picked Tae Kwon Do...I need a book on TKD forms to help me what I need to learn to participate in classes.
