I'm 18 years old and i don't own a credit card yet. But, i've been mailing job applications to apply for a job at a fast food restaurant. The applications require a ss #, so i decided to put it on there. But, i keep getting worried about my ss # and i feel really afraid that i have been putting my ss # on the job applications, now that identity theft and fraud issues have increased in this nation. So, i heard about annualcreditreport.com, and how they give you a once every 12 months credit check. So i decided to give it a try. But, when i typed in all my required informatio for the free credit report, the credit bureau i requested my credit report from has denied the request. It said that it may be due to credit freeze, non-matching information, and some other things. I suspect that it's the credit freeze. But i have never done anything with my credit yet, since i don't own a credit card. But my parents have control over my credit. Should i ask my parents if they freezed it ?

If you are 18 and haven't had credit of any kind, it's very possible that the credit agencies don't have any record of you yet.

In my opinion it's non matching information or the fact you have no credit file. Unless you're the victim of identify theft job applications at restaurants will not affect your credit report.
In future, why don't you just attach a resume to the job application you avoid the ssn question. Most desk jobs ask for resumes. Most managers of restuarants are only concerned with: when can you work, you have any experince, are you over 18 and if you have any felonies. As felonies affect if you can handle money

they usually ask you some questions to verify your identity and there is a chance you answered one wrong. I know that happened to me.

You can easily monitor your own credit report by going to www. equifax.com and signing up for their monthly service. They will alert you with any activity or inquiries with your SSN plus you get unlimited credit reports with them.
