I am currently a white belt. I will be testing for my next belt, which is sometime in september. My goal is to work towards my black belt. I looked up on my Martial Arts school and there are belt test in September, November, and February. So in Sept I will be a yellow belt november i will be a greenbelt and February I will be a blue belt. I do focus on what is being taught in class. I missed classes a week ago today due to my instructor being in the hospital. Should I test every 3 months?
If i do test how long would it take me to become a black belt and run a Martial arts school?

Your title and your actual question are a bit of a contradiction.

If you want to be a good martial artist, don't worry about how fast you can get to the next belt.

There are schools out there that will give you a blackbelt in only one year. These schools create lousy martial artists with high ranking blackbelts.

Focus on your training, think about how fast you can nail down a technique, and not how fast you can get to the next belt.

Do you really think that it takes 2 months to get the next belt?
In the beginning it might take 2-3 months, but when you get to a higher ranking, you have to work harder, train harder, and above all understand what is being taught. Being a black belt is not just about having the title or knowing how to kick butt. Its a way of life for some of us that affects our life every day in or out of the dojo. Even when you get to that next belt, you understand a fraction of what it really means, much less actually use in sparring or on the street.
When you get your black belt, let me ask you this, do you quit learning now that you have it, or do you actually continue with your quest to be a better martial artist like a majority of us do?

no. u are simply aiming to get a name. its especially weaks because u are actually scheduling when u will get a name. to become a good martial artist is all based on intention. you're intention is to get a name in something that doesnt really matter because anyone with a gun wont care what u are.

if u wanna become a good martial artist, put ur intentions into these intentions-to win
lose to gain knowledge
lose weight
become healthy
breathe better
to counter
to have conscioussness

"If i do test how long would it take me to become a black belt and run a Martial arts school?"

im not trying to hurt u but that is a weak question.
anyways, all schools have different times to gain a ranking. if ur school is based on months that is the worst school ever and is a shame.

the best schools will have u increase ranks by how good u are by practicing and having the intention that u worked hard and deserve this rank. better schools wil have no rank at ALL.

as u progress training it will be harder and harder. YOU are the one that asks yourself when u will run a martial arts school.
ask urself why are u doing it.

To me, ur schools sounds like a Mcdojo- pay us more and we will give u a rank!

This is a tricky question. You should test when you're ready. When you can execute the moves precisely. Another detail you might want to add is which art you're in, and your school's ranking system. Becoming an instructor is a tough goal, but IMO a good one. It takes discipline, time, and hard work to get there. Best of luck.

At my school, testing is by invitation only. If the instructor does not feel you are ready, you won't get an invite. I would check to see if your school is run that way.

Also - color ranks are elementary. True Learning begins at black belt.
