I served in the us Army for 8 years. I served in Campbondsteel Kosovo in 1999. Since 1999 I have been trying to obtain citizenship, got interview, passed test and was waiting for swearing in ----when Ins denied me stating it was not for that purpose. I wrote to all my congreeman but no real help, the secretaries just send you a letter stating that they are looking into it. I have dozens of letters and spent thousands of dollars. I live in NY and I have a clean record. I was paid harzadous duty pay while deployed to this warzone, and got an honorable discharge. After INS closed my case I spent 10000 us to take it to federal court. The judge denied it 2 days ago stating my tour was for tax benifits and not immigration benefits. Although section 329 of the law stated you are qualified once served in a combat zone as designated by president-------and Kosovo was designated by Bill Clinton as a combat zone. Can someone help? You can email me at settingmygoal@yahoo.com THANKS!

Contact the nearest VA affairs office.

Yeah i agree, go to your local VA office or contact the DAV.

I have a question. How did you get Hazard Pay in the Army? I have never heard of that. I thought that when you are in a combat zone and you get combat zone pay that technically that was the military version of the civilian hazard pay.

Your time in the military alone should make you an automatic citizen. I would contact the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, AmVets, and your Senator and Representative for a start. You will need documentation, such as DD-214's and if possible, sets of orders that sent you to each unit and duty station and the ones that released you from each unit and duty station.

I agree with previous post. Try VA office first.

In addition, INS (now USCIS) has a free service called InfoPass where you can get face-to-face appointment with immigration officer to discuss your case.

Check https://infopass.uscis.gov/info_en.php and click on more info. See if that is something that helps.

Good luck !!!

Some good advice given above my answer. Good luck to you. It doesn't seem fair at all.You deserve to get citizenship if you want it.
