I have mood swings, but not like bipolar (I don't think)...I have really really extreme lows (very depressed and suicidal) and then I have times where I am "okay", but never highs where I am happy. The lows can last weeks at a time, the "okays" only last a few hours, maybe couple days. Is this a mental disorder/what is it? Thanks in advance! PLEASE help!!

There is nothing out of the ordinary that triggers it. I suffered a lot of sexual abuse/rape as a young child and sometimes I start thinking about it more then others and sometimes that is why I guess. And I do know that I should be over the abuse and should stop dwelling on it, but I can't help it sometimes....and I am 19 now... If you need more info please IM me...

Maybe you have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I KNOW ...you can't stop it from coming into your head. I understand what you're talking about. Google PTSD. I try to put a lot of other stuff into my head..tv...Y.A....Try to find a group who's been thru what you've been thru...their experiences might help you and they might have some answers for you. It DOES matter....what happened to you. Don't let anybody tell you it doesn't matter. Most people can't understand.

I am reading info on this site to better understand my son. I came across your question and have to admit it sounded like me when I was younger. I ,too, experienced the same trauma as you have. I was severely depressed for a very long time (I didn't know it at the time). If you get yourself to a good therapist and become gut-level honest dealing with your pain...you will see some relief. It does not happen over night, but it will happen if you stick to it. You deserve a better life, and you need to stop letting those horrible creatures that hurt you continue to ruin your life today. I am not bipolar,and I cannot say if you are or not. But, given your experience in the past, my guess would be that you are clinically depressed...and rightly so. Good luck to you. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Just get yourself some support to get there.

You are not alone.
I recommend looking up DBSAlliance.org. This is the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance home office page. They have a lot of brochures that can address individual details of questions you ask.
Mood swings don't have to be triggered. They just happen. Moods can cycle or they can be sporadic. They can be constant.
The symptoms you describe are those experienced by both depressed and bipolar people. In fact some are diagnosed with clinical depression before it is found out they are actually bipolar.
Mental disorders are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain, and the only way you can tell your brain hurts is through behaviors. Go to DBSAlliance.org and read up on their literature, even the brochures you don't think apply. Much is there to be gained. Look up WebMD (webmd.com) for depression and bipolar conditions and check out your symptoms against their lists.
When you go to your doctor, talk to him or her about what you've found out online and in books. Write out questions beforehand to ask in the appointment. Arm yourself with information as much as possible before you go see your doctor. Do not be afraid to make him or her explain to you what is happening and to make it clear to you. Sometimes doctors need to be reminded what patients need to know.
Work closely with your doctor about treatment. Pick a doctor who is compatible with you. Make sure this doctor respects your lifestyle, your religion, your orientation, and everything else about you above and beyond your condition. This is very important, because you don't want your religion treated as part of your condition, and some treatments can interfere not only physically but in other ways as well.
Communication is a big thing. I carry my cell phone for the express purpose that my doctors can get a hold of me, and that I can use it in emergency.

Truly I tell you, it is a form of depression and anxiety. It is not anything extreme, it is just a normal case of depression. It's hard I know. But think of it as something in your control. It's obvious that you are insecure about yourself due to incidents in the past. The past is the past. The past cannot shape the future, although many people think that. Trust me, have faith. Pray to God, and keep your faith in him.
I know it, you sometimes cry for no reason, thinking that events in the past will shape your future and that you are doomed and you are not like anybody else. There are many people like you, including me, and I sometimes wish I was dead and after a few hours, I'm way better.
Take control of it. Don't let it come back. Know that it won't shape your future and that you will become like everyone else. Take a hobby, make friends, join clubs. You're older now and you have more freedom to do so. Eventually, a bad past will be destroyed and you will form a new happy history for yourself.
Remember, get involved in society, form friends, join clubs, start carrying out exercise routines and have faith in God and in yourself (that you have the ability to be happy and live peacefully). Trust me, you do.

I would suggest you see a mental health professional for an accurate diagnosis. It is not really possible to do so online. You may have clinical depression, which occurs when you feel low for at least a 2 week period. But again, my advice to you is simply to seek a professional opinion and not a diagnosis from Dr. Quack.

Well does something happen that triggers the low feelings? Or does it just happen sometimes? Sounds like chronic depression to me, and it does suck. Go to a therapist of family doctor and talk about all your problems, maybe you just need a good friend.=)

I know what you mean. I was molested and I just had a problem to where I'm not sleeping anymore and I'm just having problems doing everyday things like getting up and showering. I just started talking to people and I'm told that everyone has their own timeline for getting over it. But like you I believe that I should be over it too. I'm trying hard to believe her when she says that its okay not to be over it yet but its so hard. I hope you know that you aren't alone. I'm also learning that I'm not alone so you're definately not alone with that. As far as the being really low for weeks at a time. I get that way too. I used to try to kill myself until I tried to overdose one to many times and really scared myself. If you ever need to talk I'm here and will listen and be there for you as best as I can.

it sounds like you are suffering from depression. it would benefit you to seek help and try leading a really healthy life style and be sure not to put alot of toxins in your body. Learn to love yourself.
be careful of med they may want to give you. sometimes they help, but many times are unnecessary or are the wrong dose or combo. (esp if you're a teen some can make it worse), but you should get some counseling.
Regular exercise will help too.

You probably do have depression. If you are never happy, that is a serious problem.
And since you have expressed suicidal thoughts, you definitely want to get to a mental health professional who can help you far more than anyone on Yahoo! Answers.

Actually, I suffered from the same symptoms for years. Your brain has a connection problem that is usually treated with antidepressants. But I have found those to be more harmful than good to my body. Just recently I found product that is healthy for me and helps my mood disorders. It helps the body heal itself.
