I drink the equivalent of 6 to 8 cans of Pepsi a day. I have done so for many years. As I get older it is getting too hard to get enough exercise to use up the extra calories. I hate the taste of the diet drinks, and I'm not particularly fond of the semi-sugar semi-diet versions of the cola drinks so I end up eating cookies to get the extra sugar.

I NEED TO STAY ALERT for several hours per day so the caffeine in Pepsi is a major reason for drinking it apart from that I love the taste. I hate coffee. I have no problem sleeping after drinking 2 cans within an hour of going to bed.

How can I lose weight by cutting down on Pepsi while still getting enough caffeine for the extra alertness? Take 2 Red Bulls a day and just an occasional Pepsi during the week? Do you think I am too dependent on the very short-term alertness I get from the caffeine in Pepsi, and if I managed to quit it I would notice that I don't really need the caffeine any more for alertness and quick brain reactions?

Try low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein, and exercise. The foods are low caloried, and yet filling and healthy. Brisk walking is great for burning body fats.

Try reducing sugar intake. You wouldn't believe the effects!

You can also switch to non sugared Chinese teas

It is my lifestyle now. I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week, and I have lost 31lbs/14kg and gained better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs/49kg for more than a year, with more fruits and complex carbs.

Details such as my experience, meals, recipes, foods to buy, reading labels, walking as an exercise and to shape the body etc etc, are in my blog.

Eat more often than 3 big meals a day. Your body while processing that food will drag you down while it is working on a heavy meal. It processes the easy to get at natural sugars in the food first(giving you that energy.) Eat 6 to 7 times a day, smaller meals and good food. You will find the need for the caffiene from Pepsi is not needed. Another negative to Pepsi(or any pop) is the high sugar content will lead to adult onset diabetes.
There is not that much caffiene compared to straight fresh perked java and I use to drink 6 cups a day. Mixed it with Red Bull and got the shakes. Woah!
I have been eating more often and eating fresh fruit and drink unsweetened fruit drinks which are in season and haven't been even desiring the coffee(which I have been drinking for over 20 years)and am energetic.

It sounds like you're addicted to caffeine and sugar. When you stop drinking the Pepsi, you're going to have some withdrawal symptoms -- headaches, fatigue-- at first. Don't give in! They'll pass. If you can tough it out for about 2-3 weeks, you'll be home free! In the interim, try to drink a lot of water, get as much sleep as you can and exercise. Good luck to you and congratulations for moving in the right direction.

geeze, a little obsessive? at this rate you'll be dead and or fat in no time. Okay, caffine is like a "drug" when you quit you are so addicted to it that it can give you major head aches, your pretty far down the road, its like coffee, your basically depended on it now. just stop buying it, pawn off the addiction to something else.. preferably lettuce :D . the only way to kick the cola's would be go cold turkey, wake up early and fight the hard morning and headaches and sleepiness eventually your body will adjust.
GOOD LUCK!!!
I hope it all works out.
if you stop in no time you will have increased energy after your body adjusts to not taking in the excessive amounts of soda, sugars. It would not be beneficial to drink diet sodas, they are far worse than regular sugars.
You cant go wrong with tea , arizona teas have caffine to keep you awake but not enough to get you addicted

I use to be like that..soda is horrible. I went from that to red bull but of course thats just as bad and then I found...

ONE A DAY Vitamines..There is one with ENERGY now..it a green bottle..Gives you a jolt like red bull without the calorie intake.

Its a good alternative to intaking so much soda and if you do drink 8 cans a day..thats approx. 1200 calories you are cutting right there alone...Try the vitamin first.

unsweetened iced tea. no calories, but has caffeine. and my doctor told me 1 can of soda a day keeps an extra 25 lbs on you throughout the year. no red bulls. they have 2-3 times as much sugar. they do have sugar free red bull, but theyre not good for you. take some ginseng, have a glass of tea!

The first 3 days are the hardest. Try buying some gum with caffine in it or replace the pepsi with iced tea which has ton and tons of caffine.

Be a kid yet again! When eating out, order a new child’s sandwich, pizza or burger. Then you can have the treats you like, while reducing your portions and cutting your calorie intake.
