No, the pope would be the one disappointed.

My son can't even spell the words "chastity" or "poverty"

(For the record, he's happily married . . . you have dirty minds!)

That would depend on the motivation behind the decision. Priests are well known pedophiles. Giving ones life in service is not a waste. Most people don't have the strength or wisdom to choose a life such as nuns do. They are the givers not the takers in religion.

I would see it as a failure by me as a parent. The religious life is the cheapest way to gain authority over fellow humans.

My only daughter has a need to tell people what to do and to be looked up to, but at least she'll be able to give them something worthwhile for their attention. She is currently in her third year of med school.

As long as they were happy with there life. Oh yeah, Priests and Nuns are two different rankings. It would be Priest and Priestesses or Nuns and Monks.

Everyone is free to decide what path their own life makes. I personally feel that the need for Religion is a weakness, the problem is i have known some incredibly strong people who had Religion.

I must admit that, yes, I would be disappointed to see such a bright mind wasted on such a pointless endeavor as indoctrinating not only himself but others into a subservient roll for nothing more than touting popularity for a non-existing being...

A life of sin and shame would be a waste.

A life of commitment towards Christ and the betterment of humanity is not a waste!

YES....

1 Timothy 4
1. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2. Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3. Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

I would be very disappointed to see anyone to whom I am related brainwashed into an organization that promotes the hatred of women, the denial of our rights, our intellect, our abilities and attempts to keep women subservient and in sexual slavery.
