Social Security Card.

Then Drivers License.

For most banking info, you will probably have to fax in a copy of your marriage license, so having your passport/driver's license changed won't matter for these. My DMV (in North Carolina) required me to first change my name officially on my Social Security card. I would start with this, and then call your banks individually -- they all seem to have different requirements and there is no real standard.

At least in Texas you have to change your driver's liscense first. You have to show the new driver's liscense at both your bank and the social security office before they will do a name change there. Don't forget that if you have any utility bills (water, gas, electric) and or credit cards you need to do a name change on those also. YOu also need to change your name with the post office to ensure that you get all your mail.

I just did mine (I live in Chicago)

First I did my drivers license. You need to bring your marriage certificate. (not a copy. they will not accept it)

Then I did banks, credit cards, passport.

I did social security last just because it was convenient for me that way. If you do ss after your drivers license, make sure you bring something that has your old name on it. (a bill, car insurance card)

Your drivers license needs to be changed first and then you need to go to the social security administration office.

It's possible that I have the order reversed. I'm not sure. What you can do is to call the social security administration. I found them to be very helpful when I called.

At least here, you change your drivers license first, as you will need it with the name change to change your social security card, and everything else.

I'd go with banking first, so you and your husband have the joint account set up as soon as possible, then go with driver's license, credit cards, and then the government information. Don't forget insurance, loyalty cards, etc.

Your passport and residency card should be top priority.
