The primal and supreme deity of the ancient world, the oldest and most universally worshipped, was the Great Mother, Mother Earth. Images of Her date back to Aurignacian Cro-Magnon peoples, from 27,000 years ago, and are found all over the Eurasian continent from Spain to Siberia. For thousands of years before there were any male gods, there was The Goddess, and Her worship continued unabated clear up until its violent suppression by Iron Age patrism. When and where worship of the Mother prevailed women and Nature were held in esteem. The Chinese call Her Kwan Yin; the Egyptians knew Her as Isis; the Navajo call Her Changing Woman. To the Greeks She was Gaia, and to many black peoples She is Yemanja.

Yes, it is called pantheism. Pantheism is the philosophy that everything is God (pan="everything" theos="God") or that the universe and nature are divine. (It is *NOT* "All Gods are One God, and All Goddesses are One Goddess that you find among neo-Wiccans). Most pantheists are monists and do not believe in anthropomorphic, theistic "deities".
Pantheism believes that the universe and nature are worthy of the deepest religious reverence. Understanding them, appreciating their beauty, and preserving nature, should be the central focus of our lives
The confusion comes from a misuse of the term in 1837 which has been carried over by modern pagans. The correct usage is the earlier usage coined in 1730. From the Oxford English Dictionary:
1. Oxford English Dictionary
Pantheism.
1. The religious belief or philosophical theory that God and the Universe are identical (implying a denial of the personality and transcendence of God); the doctrine that God is everything and everything is God.
[First use 1730, modelled on the word pantheist, first used by John Toland in 1705]
2. The heathen worship of all the gods.
[First use 1837 by Sir F. Palgrave, describing the Tartar tribes who respected all creeds but were attached to none]
PANTHEIST (all=god) is a term coined in 1705 by John Toland, for someone who believes that there is only one eternal being - the Universe. On this basis in 1732 the Christian apologist Daniel Waterland used the noun "PANTHEISM" for the first time, condemning the belief as "scandalously bad . . . scarce differing from . . . Atheism."

The Sun, the Moon and the Earth are the longest honored and worshiped things on ....well the earth. LOL
Correction though. Isis was not mother nature persay but she did have a "personification" of. Isis was the "Mother of the Gods." She was the healer and of the midwives. She defeated Ra and helped rule the dead with Osiris...but I get your point. Sorry....lol

The only 'thing' (etc) worthy of reverence and worship, is the source of oneself!. Any other objectification is a misconception!.
The source of self, may be attributed to any conceptualized viewpoint. i.e. Mother Nature, God, or any creation of the mind. The reality lies within self, for 'there' is the source of self. If we question how to 'know' this source, then we are asking.. how to know the self that we already are! Why do we not already know it?
The self, can be an undiscovered country - especially to those who hold to symbolic outer representations. For science and religion alike, conceptions become perceptions. They cloud awarenesses within self.

I could see her being the oldest deity, since she is what we walk on. I do wonder, however where the sun and moon fall into the order. It seems that the three go together.

God created Earth and all the things on it, in it, and below it. He had Wisdom by his side, who happens to be a female. I take care of what Earth is in my little patch. And whatever I can do beyond that. While we should all be respectful of it, the Earth is a creation of God and although it commands respect, God deserves our worship. Nothing and no one else does.
