Often when you dream of another person, that person is really "you". I imagine that your subconscious is trying to resolve some feelings of guilt, sadness, and loss over the premature death of your father. Possibly even trying to resolve a deep, unspoken, anger about his leaving you when you were so young (even though you probably know that's not logical)? Let the dreams come, but don't let them bother you too much. Your father would want you to move forward with your life and be happy. Know that he loves you, and always will.

You did not state how old you are at present, but finding one's Dad dead at the age of 12 would definitely have a great impact.
I, too, dream of my dead Dad, but also my dead Mom and my dead son, the youngest.
Dreams often tell you something; I believe that there is a problem your subconscious is trying to solve and it is presenting these dreams. Often in one's sleep, while dreaming, you can alter the dreams to present a better outcome. Perhaps you feel guilt for his death and feel he is blaming you for his death. That is not the case and you should think of peace and peacefulness. Perhaps the wind soughing through the pines or ocean waves gently lapping the beach. Whatever brings you peace of mind.
Think happy thoughts about your Dad and the good times...When you are ready for sleep, find a comfortable position and be prepared to change positions if your dreams are bothering you. Tell yourself in advance that when the dreams become too sad or hurtful, you will change the tone of the dream to happier times and that you will resolve your conflict.
Also, eating certain foods often causes people to have one type of dream or another, so eat something bland before sleeping, warm milk, jello, whatever is the most agreeable with your stomach. Don't watch bad movies (i.e., horror movies or even the news) before sleeping. Perhaps listen to some soft music, but not sad music.
You might even ask your Dad what he would like for you in life. And, finally, if there is anything you are upset with him about, ask his forgiveness.

According to Dreamcrowd:
To see the dead in your dream, forewarns that you are being influenced by negative people and are hanging around the wrong crowd. You may suffer material loss. This dream may also be a way for you to resolve your feelings with those who have passed on. If you dream of a person who has died a long time ago, then it suggests that a current situation or relationship in you life resembles the quality of that deceased person. The dream may depict how you need to let this situation or relationship die and end it. To see and talk with your dead parents in your dreams, represents your fears of losing them or your way of coping with the loss. You may want that last opportunity to say your final good-byes to them. To see your dead sibling, relative, or friend alive in your dream, indicates that you miss them and are trying to relive your old experiences you had with them. In trying to keep up with the pace of your daily waking life, you dreams may serve as your only outlet in coping and coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. See also: Die

My experiences with my dad in my dreams are similar. He was an A**h@le in life, and now he's dead, he still pops up every once in a while in dream-world to remind me of that.
My dad was killed when I was 28, but we had not spoken for years, so there was a lack of resolution of our problems.
Perhaps it is just a continuation of how he treated you in life. Or you still feel guilty for making mistakes that were left to be remembered but not laughed at as my living mom does about my past mistakes after years of forgiveness. I am not sure if my dad would have ever laughed about my mistakes, but still would hold the grudges as was his way.

My take on this is that you're feeling like you should have been able to do something before he died. Whatever it is , it's bothering you and messing with your head. Maybe you think, on a sub-conscious level that if you'd gotten to him sooner he'd still be here and not there. Whatever it is, it's you not him.
Our loved ones come to us in many different ways but one of the most common is in dreams. You may be taking his presence and turning it to something it's not 'sent' to be, because of your feelings of inadequacy at his death.
Think through these things and realize that he died when it was his time to go. If he's coming to see you it's out of love.
Another thing you may want to think about...are you involved in anything now that you know he wouldn't have approved of? That could be causing some of this too.
