2nd request.
I was wondering if someone could elaborate more on the Mormons who have plural wives. They say God commands them to do it. I have already ordered my Book of Mormon from there website and have been told that Mormons no longer take multiple wives. I watched a documentary last night where this community Sentenial Park I think was the name of the community. They were all mormons and they practiced this belief. I would like to know more about this. If anyone has any other information. I already know the Church of Latter Day Saints and they do not do this anymore.

The Mormons, or members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, no longer believe in plural wives. In fact, they published this thing called the Proclamation to the Family, which states that they encourage people to become politically active to enforce or change the definition of marriage to be between one man and one woman. However, Mormons have not changed their scriptures to get rid of the stuff about plural marriage being an eternal principle(meaning after we die Mormons think that there might be polygamy).

The Church of Latter Day Saints was started by Joseph Smith and is what it was called in the 1800's before it broke up into a bunch of different break off organizations.

The Mormons are the largest of these break-off organizations and have about ten million people. Pretty much all of the small break-off organizations practice polygamy and believe in polygamy. The largest of these breakoff reglions is the FLDS church, which has about 30,000 members.

Like people have said before me. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints does NOT practice polygamy today. At one time it was practiced, but has not for over 100 years. There are some break off groups who claim to be Mormon who do practice polygamy.

Today the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not practice plural marriage, but it did practice this doctrine tell 1890. Why did the early Mormons live the doctrine of plural marriage? Plural marriage is a very old doctrine that can be found in the old testament in the Bible. Plural marriage is not a Mormon doctrine but has been taught and practiced as far back as the old testament. Mormons believe that we live in the dispensation of the fullness of times another Bible doctrine(see Ephesians 1: 9-10) which basically means in the last days all of Gods truth that has ever been revealed to man will be gathered into one or restored, Plural marriage being one of them. Plural marriage is not a cake ride for the Father of the house hold. He has the righteous duty of supporting his families both supporting and honoring each of his wife's, but also taking care of each one of his children his is one of service to his family as Christ served the Church. this law came only by way of commandment and not to be entered into to satisfy the lust of the flesh. Mormons believe that the family is based off the order in heaven that we all lived before we came into mortality (another Bible doctrine see Jeremiah 1:5) and are children of God (another Bible doctrine see Romans 8 :16). That to bring a little bit of heaven to earth is to honor the family, so the heavens and earth can become one in Christ the Lord.

What really saddens me is when they say Mormon polygamists, not the sect they actually belong to. It puts a bad name on the LDS/Mormons, who do not practice polygamy. Any man with more than one wife is excommunicated immediately for practicing polygamy. But, it does give us a bad reputation. That said, I do feel for those women who are in polygamous marriages. They really don't have a personal life, all their decisions are a group decision. And polygamy is such a big part of their religions. A woman is expected to enter into a polygamous relationship, usually at a relatively young age, and she has no choice but to do so. I can't help but think that it must do something to her personally.

Most of the Utah Mormons gave up plural wives in order to get statehood for Utah. However, some groups still practice it. They all would have continued it, but they wanted statehood more than the extra wives.

No where in the Bible am I aware of that says a man cannot have more than one wife.He just can't have someone else's wife. However we are told to obey the laws of the land and the law states that we are to have 1 wife, and 1 husband at a time.
I love my wife so much though I can't imagine even wanting someone else.

PS: The church of latter day saints and mormons are the same thing. They started calling themselves this to help them spread their deception.

I saw a report on TV, a few years ago, that said there was a town in Calf. where a sec. that broke off of the original Mormons that did believe in more than one wife. Because the First Amendment says "Freedom of Religion" they are aloud to live there. But if they leave the town, then they can be arrested.

We practiced it many, many years ago because, yes, God commanded us to do it. We were then told after a time to not do it anymore. So we don't, and any member that is found to is promptly excommunicated. No ands ifs or buts.

If you have any more questions feel free to email me anytime.

KKingS is right, the Fundamentalist Group still practices it, illegally, as well as other groups that splintered off from the church, mainly over the polygamy issue, as well as who would be the prophet after Joseph Smith died.

Well the Mormon church may be against it, but it doesn't mean that it not practiced anyway. The priest can also say "I want all of you to stop fornicatin' outside of marriage" ...yeah , right, in your dreams
