It is not in the Book of Mormon, it is in the Pearl of Great Price or the Doctrine and Covenants. I don't remember which one, but it doesn't matter because you won't believe it anyways. We have received it through latter-day revelation through the Prophet Joseph Smith (again something you don't believe). This is what we believe and why we believe it, but you don't believe so what do you care? You don't believe that God still talks to man today, so you don't believe this is true. Only you can change that. I can't.

Because Jesus talked about his Father (God) maybe? I know that if God was a woman would he not have called her his mother? Because he said father in the Bible that would pretty much make God a man.

Here are some references from the Bible to back this up.

Matthew 5: 16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 6:9
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Matthew 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 12:50
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Jesus was a man wasn't he? Now what is he? He is a God, not THE God but he is a God. What did Christ have to do? Go through trails, temptation, be born on Earth, etc. Then he became as a God.

Thing is, one must go through trials to become better, like the refiners fire. But, that is Doctrine that we have recieved through a prophet. You must know if the prophets are true if you want to know if the doctrine is true. You must ask of God (james 1:5). Have you ever read the Book of Mormon? Seriously read it? if not then you can't really say that you don't believe that either, the Book or the Prophet, are false, because you don't know.

There is no answer to your question with it's stipulations, because the technical answer to your question is: The Mormons think God was a man because Joseph Smith said that God was a man.

Luke 15v2 This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them
God said let us make man in our image Genesis ch1v26

If God made us in his image then we are in the image of God.
again Deut 14v1 ye are the children of the Lord your God

Our Father who art in Heaven....

Jesus is the image of God:

2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

Hebrew 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Since most of the world's educated believe in the theory of the "Big Bang" as the origin on the Universe, it's probably safe to assume that if there's fire, explosions and some 'banging' going on, it's undoubtedly the work of a guy.
