Does alcohol have any effect on IV fluid?

the excess fluid will eventually begin accumulating in the lungs and other "third spaces"... this accumulation can be reversed with diuretics if necessary, but your heart rate, bp and respirations/respiratory effort should be monitored closely. I'm assuming that this is drinking alcohol (not rubbing alcohol) that was consumed and not injected (Intravenously?!?!) - alcohol has a diuretic effect and may help with the fluid accumulation.

Hope this helps.

As to alcohol, I don't know. But I would assume that excess IV fluid would be the same as drinking too much fluid. Fluid gets backed up at the kidney, because it can't process it fast enough and the fluid builds up in the brain and you die.

As someone who spent three weeks in a coma due to hypervolemia, you begin to swell all over, then you basically asphyxiate, respiatory failure.
