I rented a factility for my wedding ceremony and reception that holds 250. Thinking about it now I will only have about 50-60 guest. Is this place too big and will it look silly?

The facility is a rustic type stone building on a few acres of land with large wooden tables and a fireplace.

Once all the tables are set up and all the people are there it won't seem so big. I am sure they will have it set up so that the table surround the dancefloor, there may be some unused space in the corner but no one will care because all the action will be around the tables and the dance floor so i do not think it will look silly.

I just coordinated a wedding the room seated 300, there were only 90 guests, the room was set up really nice no one eve noticed.

Also I was married in a hall that seated 350 and I only had 130 or so guests, it was nice to have room to move around and mingle.

Good luck!

If you don't split it up somehow it will look very empty with only that many people. If you havn't put down a deposit or can get your money back I would find a smaller hall since you probably overpaid. Otherwise you will need to make do.

Talk with the hall about dividers or if they do not have any you can cheaply make some using PVC pipe and fabric "curtains" to divide of the majority of the room.

Also talk with party rental companies and the nursery about renting some tall plants and things to make a living divider to cutt off the huge unusued portions of the room.

A third option if the weather is nice is to set up an outdoor reception elsewhere on the property. A nice dancefloor can actually be easily made by painting plywood and covering with a shiny sealant and placed anywhere and the expanse of space will not be noticed as it would in a room really really too big.

Many facilities you can split the room and only rent half of it...talk to them and see if this is the case. If not, then yes it will be very large for such a small gathering. It will feel very open and spaced out, you want your reception to feel close and personal, an intimate setting...you could still use the room if it is what your hearts are set on, just makes sure the tables are close together and use things for filler like gift table, cake table, decorations etc
