1/2 the week i'm using a cable modem and have great bandwidth, the other half of the week i'm using DSL off a public access router. I want to hang myself when it comes to making calls. My down speed is 3- 5k, and its not bad, but my up speed is what is killing my conversations. I can hear them but they have a hard time making out what I say. Is there a VOIP with better compresion or somthing along those lines?

3-5k is akin to dialup. Look for a better BROADBAND connection. You're not going to find anything that works on less bandwidth.

All VOIP is poor at slow speeds.
