I think most people are so afraid to believe. If they believe they will have to follow the teachings of Jesus and they do not want to do that. Most know what is in store for them but rather than do what is right they just play ignorant and disobey leaving themselves open to sin.

No, it's just doubt in God, because they don't realize that God is with them even in doubt. Some holier than God churhes have been blaspheming the Holy Spirit of God so much that it has driven many people to call themselves athiest, when in all reality it has been the Holy Spirit of God all along that has allowed them to be saved from blasphemy. It is the Holy Spirit that saves. Our God is true omnipresence. God gives life. There is nobody alive that does not have the have the Spirit of God within them, allowing them life. There are however people who do not know this yet. There are so many churches that call themselves Christian and use both the name of the Father and the Son to deny the presence of God in so many different believers. God is not a belief, and people will stop trying to blaspheme the Holy Spirit of God, only when the finally KNOW God, and nobody HAS to wait for death to finally know God, because by then it may be too late.

Praise be to the Father, the Son, AND to the Holy Ghost.
Don't I know it. I have the truth within me.

EDIT
pat from ohio, I'm so sorry you lost you son. You really don't have to label yourself athiest. A true athiest does not know God like you do. You are blessed.

The only thing we are all bound for is death, anything else is just opinion.

If I were "mad at God", I would definitely have good reason. My son was 14 when he was killed after being struck by a van. Well liked, smart, and kind, he was at the end of his life, determined that he would become a Christian minister (despite the fact that I am a "devout" atheist). One of his final wishes was that his organs be donated in the event of his "untimely demise". Surely and caring and all-knowing "god" would not allow such a loving and generous person to have his life snuffed out so early.
No, I'm not angry at God, I know I have been blessed to have shared some of my short time here on Earth with such a fine human being and honored that I am his father.

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.

If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.

First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.

How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work 100 percent of the time?

It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.

One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.

Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.

If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.

If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.

How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.

Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.

If this is the case and we are perfect creations of a perfect God then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.

How likely is that????

Think about it.

Truth is something we can't reach until we can prove it. Since we can't prove certain religious things, everybody understands it differently, according to each one's own experiences in life. That's why I believe we all will have several lives, so that we all have the chance to achieve knowledge. That makes sense to me and matches with my own experience in life that is probably very different than yours. But that's OK! We don't have to have the same opinion, we just have to tolerate and respect each other. Don't you think God planned things that way? I believe He did. I believe He made Himself understandable and acceptable under different points of view. I believe He shows Himself in different ways to everybody. It would be impossible that the whole world would see Him the same way, let alone the different cultural heritage.

You say people have pride and anger, and maybe your question was made under pride and anger too. Think about it.

Peace!

what i think is that your truth that u see is not the same truth for everyone especially those who have seen the world and those that know history and what Christianity has done in the past in the timescale of world religions Christianity is still very new and offers none to little actual truth not to mention the bible is littered with lies and things that if done today would get u arrested.

Who's bound by lies and can't see the truth? It's not who you think!

I think that you really don't have a clue about how others think or an objective idea about what lies outside of your small christian world. Not saying that you are wrong, but that most of the world thinks the same way about you...

If I truly thought there was everlasting salvation in accepting Christ and christianity, I would accept it. If I truly thought that I would go to hell for not believing, I would believe.

However, I don't believe, I don't see any need to believe in your particular belief, and therefore, its not anger or pride or sin, but just a lack of faith and no proof.

Yes, well, since you claim it is the truth, it must be so...

It has nothing to do with sin, pride, or anger. It has to do with absolutely no evidence of Jesus being anything more than a spiritual leader. Oh, besides a 2000 year old book, but that's not really evidence...
