I am staying at a hotel in California, and I been in the balcony using the Internet for about 4hrs, and there is this Cop in the parking lot, just sitting there he already smoke a couple of cigaretts, ate for the longest time, and talked and laughed on his cellphone for a long time. It is just getting annoying especially because the west side of this town is considered a high crime are, but yet there is this cop relaxing in the parking lot...

Unless you know why he is there or what he is doing You are simply worrying about something that isnt really an issue.

There are times where we are told to go sit a spot and dont move, perhaps we are looking for a person, vehicle, activity...the reasons are numerous.

Officer presence is always a deterrant for crime, esp when they see an officer in a marked cruiser. Most smart crooks will move on and seek an area that isnt as well looked over.

How much time passed? You only say a "long time". That is vague and varies from person to person. I might say that several hours is a long time yet to another it could be 30 minutes. It is possible that he took his lunch break there.

If you are in doubt, go ask in the future. Be polite about it, but query as to why they are there and what they are doing. They will tell you. Remember the name of the officer and the car number if they are rude and if need be, contact the department to ask and or complain.

It happens everywhere. Here in Chicago, every Sunday morning a police car would pull into our loading dock and sit there for literally hours. The Officer would be seen asleep in the car, reading magazines, she would even come in and ask for coffee. I worked Security so she could be observed on our cameras and also when we did perimeter patrols. Sad to see that but she is only asking for trouble. Not my concern though.

at a city festival , i pulled into a prime parking spot, waiting to pick someone up. we had trouble finding each other due to amount of traffic / people and cars. i ended up waiting for 20 mins. while there i observe about six of them drinking pina colada's while presumably on the job ? the vendor that was right next to us was only selling pina colados and i observed them go there are get the cups. now it could be argued that they were ordering water?? or just jucie , maybe ? next what happens is a see one of them with a can of beer , yes. the beer was not opened. he was parked in the car in front of me . his wife / three kids join him and he gets in the car with them and leaves. let's give the officers the benefit and say there were not drinking. they should be aware of how it looks to the public and should have obtained "water" from the bottled water booth. no doubt, they were probably hitting the vendor for free goods anyway. also, bothered me was that , this one was transporting the family in the squad car. i think the car should be used for business only. it's not a personal car to get back / forth. i don't think that "perk" should be allowed. not sure what the official policy is. i suppose everything they do is under the microscope ... but ... this kind of stuff does irk me.

each and every police branch has its very own academic standards. some require a HS degree or GED, others require some college, others require a level (some 2 twelve months, some 4 twelve months). those that do require college, do no longer care what you substantial in. learn even if you like, and can do nicely in. I worked with an officer who had a level in chinese language background.

I would call the police department and tell them one of police cars are sitting in the parking lot for hours and you are beginning to worry that something has happened to the person/cop inside. I keep asking myself, "Is he live?" and there will be someone that shows up, but if you do this..........get off the balcony..........

The cops in my town are ALWAYS on their cell phones when on duty! They are also on the computer for personal business, and always going out to the local restaurant or home to eat!

One thing's guaranteed. While the cop is in the parking lot of YOUR hotel, there likely won't be any crime happening to you. You should be thankful he is there.

Call and report him to the station. Now the area is in danger because he prefers to blow off his shift!

His job is to serve and protect not sit in his car and rest!!! Good luck! Do the right thing! For every bad officer there is one who is caring and proud of their job!

If you're that curious, go down, and ask him what he's doing. He's obviously not trying to hide in a marked car. I'm sure some people are glad to see him sitting there.

Maybe he is off duty and is just watching the place as a second job.
