Watch out for those bounty hunters. They will capture you hostage and torture you.

Police are not bill collectors. This person needs to be reported. Start with the local prosecutor's office or Police Internal Affairs Section. If you get no satisfaction, Try the state attorney general. Debtors prisons went the way of the nickel phone call long ago and owing money is a civil, not a criminal matter. You also might find a attorney and consider a suit for harassment.

Sounds like a collector to me. Can you make arrangements to pay off this debt, in small installments? Like whatever you can afford a month? I'd try that. Never heard of a police detective hassling for money. So, do not pay them any money. Go to a debt
repair place, tell them about the debt. They can contact the place you owe and set up a payment plan that suits you.

A debt could be a criminal matter in certain circumstances like if you received money to do a job but never did the job, but I would ask to meet him at the police station to work out a plan next time he calls and if he is not willing to do so, call you local police department and explain the situation and see what you can do.

The police do not harass you to collect debts.
You are dealing with a collection agency.
You cannot be arrested for debt unless there is a court judgment that you violate, (Child support etc.).
If he pretends to be a police officer he is committing a crime. Cops take a dim view on this. - Call him on it.
Ask for his badge number, (by law he must honor the request if he's an officer), if he gives one, report him.
Harassment is also a crime, (laws differ by location).
Record the next conversation, telling him you are doing so.
Tell him you are doing the best you can to pay, and to stop harassing you.

They can't. Such things are "civil matters".

Regardless of you owing money, it sounds like this is a bill collector (a private civilian) impersonating a police officer (a serious crime in just about every jurisdiction). This jerk needs to be brought to ground. You should report his misconduct to the police (your local police will do) for impersonating a police officer, and you could probably sue him for emotional distress for at least the amount of your debts plus legal fees.

It is not a detective that is calling you, but it is a collection person. It is not an Officer of the Law, but a mean spirited person trying to collect a bill. Tell them your not accepting their calls. It they continue, you can charge them with harrassment. If this person is threatening you, it is against the Law. You become a detective , find out who they are and in return take them to court . Good Luck.

I dought he a real cop. Just a debt collector harrassing you. If you wont him off your back the only way is to work out a payment plan with him or file chapter 7 or 13 and your lawyer well issue a leave you alone order.

Your credit institution often sells delinquint accounts over to
a collection agency for maybe 60 cents on the dollar. They
figure gitting 60 cents is better than nothing, and it is out of
their hands, and the rest of us don't have to pay your bill by
charging the rest of us in higher interest rates. So if a police
officer does knock on your door and show his I.d. consider
him a collection agency, if you will.

Call the police and the phone company and tell them someone has been harassing you. Give them his name if you have it. Police aren't in the business of harassing people.
