They believe that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of time on December 21, 2012 because it abruptly ends on that day.

This is what I know so far:
An ancient Indian set of calenders predict 12/21/12 as being the end date (Mayan). The date coincides with the winter solstice and it also happens to be the date the earth, sun and Milky Way are aligned.
Supposedly, there's a Bible correlation but I don't know what it is.
Scientists are predicting a huge Yellowstone eruption (no specific date-just sometime soon) and astronomers are measuring unusual solar activity and have noticed a giant 'tear' in the magnetic field (which may have something to do with the ozone cracks but there's nothing to say for sure).
Global Warming will affect the climate over decades so that shouldn't cause an immediate change.

Personally, I can't WAIT for 12/21/12. I think that day's gonna be a ton of fun, hehe...

The Mayan Calender expires on that date, and also there are a set of astrological alignments that never occur at the same time. There are also hints towards this date in the Old Testament Bible Code as well as the I Ching. There was an entire history channel show devoted to this date in history--I recommend you go to their website and purchase the video.

The mayan calender expires on December 21, 2012.

Somewhere in the Old Testament lies a code about the same exact date. Many scholars and historians believe this is Yahweh giving us an indication about the end.

Because they are not old enough to have lived through the last 50 or so ends of the world that never actually happened in the last few years.

The world is made up of individuals...right now, at this moment, someones world is coming to an end. Just be ready for your moment. If you are saved, you will not fear death...but those who rail agianst God will surely one day, face the one who died for them and be ashamed for rejecting what he did on the cross for them. Don't be placed on the left when he divides the unbeleivers from the beleivers. Get your name in that Book of Life...

"11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne; and books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, even the lake of fire. 15 And if any was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire."

No one knows when the world will end. Even Jesus and the Angels don't know. Only God knows. Don't believe anything anyone says on dates. Just be ready when Jesus comes back. Matthew 24 talks about end times. There is no date on there though.

The thing with the calender. Doesn't this sound like the whole Y2K thing... People went out and stocked up on food and things. Thinking all things were going to go down. I think it was around the thinking that when they made the stuff they only put the date up to 1999.... How did that end up?

Because the Maya had a very complicated astrological calendar which supposedly ends on December 21st, 2012 A.D.
