What's the point of discussing religion if no one will ever listen to you? Why do we ask questions when we know the only response we'll get is an angry answer or two(or three or fifty or a hundred)? If you're trying to convert everyone opposing your beliefs, well, to tell you the truth all you're doing is making them madder and hate you and your beliefs even more.

Doctor J: Some one will always(ok, most of the time) be right in an argument, but my point is that no one will ever accept the truth. No one(I sure know I don't) wants to hear and accept that they are wrong.

Hi O'l Sam! Some people will hear and respond to the truth of Jesus. Some will not. Jesus comands us to try for those that will.

The point of discussing anything is the sharing of information which shouldn't provoke feelings of hostility. Communication is the exchange of facts, information, thoughts, ideas, beliefs and data. That's all, that's it. The problem sits with the ego. People get wrapped up in what they think they know as opposed to what they think other people don't know and they assign value to it...that's why you always hear the name of any person of authoritative status given along with their entire list of credentials..ie, Dr. So and So from the University of Knowitall, head of the department of stuff and nonsense who chairs the committee of other people as important as them who think all the large thoughts on behalf of the rest of us. That and the list of books, lectures and websites pertaining to all their good and useful knowledge that has done nothing for mankind. Yet, you would be more willing to listen to them based on this criteria than say a 40 year old house frau from Alaska with two kids and very unimportant job yet who has spent the last 11 years studying the Bible in an effort to understand and convey that understanding to others. So I come to this forum and I answer questions, (or make the occasional smart **** comment just to amuse myself) in an effort to get people to think, discover and search for themselves what the truth is. Let people hate away if that is their propensity. Information is information no matter whether its contents of the Bible or a recipe for guamarian bar bq chicken. You wouldn't get offended if I gave you a recipe would ya? Then why would you get upset over my opinion on any other topic? Knowing more or the delusion of knowing more allows us to feel superior to the people we are relating to...that is why you see so much bickering and animosity...there is no point to that...fer sure. There is a point to discussion though...to exchange, interact and build a dynamic that might benifit someone. Love thy neighbor simply means to impart knowledge as well as help them out..if you are not doing both together then it becomes an excersize in futility. Love in Christ, ~J~

Because I hope that Christians and other religions will lean to keep their morals out of all and any country's laws and will learn not to confuse "belief" with fact. I don;t care if they keep their belief, just that they don't teach it in schools as a alternative fact...

I suppose that it is too much to hope for, but it would be nice if some learned to broaden their view to something more than their Christianity.

Well it doesnt have to always be that way. I have some very civilized conversations with Muslims and calvinists and I have gotten to know more about their beliefs, though I dont agree with them. Education and understanding is good.

Well discussing religion in a calm manner certainly beats killing each other over it. There is far too much war over religion - if only we could be rational and respectful about it.

I enjoy the mental exercise of unraveling various religious traditions and concepts. Not that you really get much of a chance on here. There's not much sport in responding to somebody who asks the "Why are there still monkeys?" question.

Maybe, but there are some good discussions in R&S. I like to read every answer....It means there's some kind of relationship we have ,even if we disagree....

I have actually met a lot of really cool pagans here that have answered my questions for me.

Then of course it's just fun to argue too
