Cytochrome P450c21 creates an essential group of steroid hormones. It is encoded by the CYP21B gene. Another copy of the gene, CYP21A (also called CYP21P) contains three inactivating mutations. The chimpanzee CYP21A gene shares one of the three inactivations, the same eight base pairs are deleted. In the gorilla and the orangutan, CYP21A works and CYP21B is inactivated. The genes are each located adjacent to a working copy of a gene for a serum protein, C4. And these genes are located in the middle of the major histocompability complex of all ape genomes.

We share a specific deactivating mutation with chimpanzees that chimpanzees do not share with other apes. How can Creationists explain this? What gene can Creationists use to show that we are not related to apes?

Deslok of Gammalon: In response to your challenge: "Please point to a strictly natural process that creates information. What evidence is there that information, such as that in DNA, could ever assemble itself?"

All sorts of of natural processes produce information. I'll use two of your examples. The height, shape, spacing and orientation of sand dunes tell you about the direction, speed and variation of prevailing winds. Ice crystals grow in different ways based on the temperature and water vapor content in the air. Identical snowflakes can be grown in the lab. Each snowflake carries a record of the conditions it experienced as it grew.

Creationists like to think that most evidence for evolution comes from the fossil record, which is why they go on about missing links. They totally miss the genetic argument for evolution.

Even worse, some of them think scientists looked at apes, looked at humans, decided they were similar and just made up the theory of evolution on the spot. Then scientists started hunting down bogus fossils to back up their claims.

After all, the world is only 6000 years old, according to these whackos, there wasn't even time for evolution!

Added: I just read the post above. Common parts?!!? Like I said, 'whackos'.

"In the gorilla and the orangutan, CYP21A works and CYP21B is inactivated" - And exactly who do you think decided that one is activated and one is inactivated? If the laws of nature also work for genes, why does a species carry an inactivated gene at all? What would be the purpose.

You say molecular data points away from God, I say it points right at Him. We'll debate this until the end of time I suppose :)

Facts, data, knowledge, and science are things that creationists would rather not concern themselves with. They would rather live in their make believe world. They even have a make believe "museum" now. It's full of interesting things, like an exhibit showing that T-Rex was a plant eater. The next revelation might be that sharks munch on seaweed.

There is nothing to explain.

God the Creator created Chimps and Humans and occationally used some common parts.

So, what you are saying is that God who created all animals by the sixth day decided that primates would be the right way to go for his final sixth day creation, Man? Cool, never really thought of it that way. And such an elegant proof. Congratulations, my hat is off to you.

"It is encoded by the CYP21B gene" Where does this encoded information come from?

"See this email I just sent you, that you're reading
right now? This email is proof of the existence of God.

Yeah, I know, that sounds crazy. But I'm not asking you
to believe anything just yet, until you see the evidence for
yourself. All I ask is that you refrain from disbelieving
while I show you my proof. It only takes a minute to convey,
but it speaks to one of the most important questions of all
time.

So how is this email proof of the existence of God?:

This email you're reading contains letters, words and
sentences. It contains a message that means something.
As long as you can read English, you can understand what
I'm saying.

You can do all kinds of things with this email. You
can read it on your computer screen. You can print it out on
your printer. You can read it out loud to a friend who's in
the same room as you are. You can call your friend and read it
to her over the telephone. You can save it as a Microsoft
WORD document. You can forward it to someone via email, or you
can post it on a website.

Regardless of how you copy it or where you send it,
the information remains the same. My email contains a message.
It contains information in the form of language. The message
is independent of the medium it is sent in.

Messages are not matter, even though they can be carried
by matter (like printing this email on a piece of paper).

Messages are not energy even though they can be carried
by energy (like the sound of my voice.)

Messages are immaterial. Information is itself a unique
kind of entity. It can be stored and transmitted and copied
in many forms, but the meaning still stays the same.

Messages can be in English, French or Chinese.
Or Morse Code. Or mating calls of birds. Or the Internet.
Or radio or television. Or computer programs or architect
blueprints or stone carvings. Every cell in your body
contains a message encoded in DNA, representing a complete
plan for you.

OK, so what does this have to do with God?

It's very simple. Messages, languages, and coded
information ONLY come from a mind. A mind that
agrees on an alphabet and a meaning of words and
sentences. A mind that expresses both desire and
intent.

Whether I use the simplest possible explanation,
such as the one I'm giving you here, or if we analyze
language with advanced mathematics and engineering
communication theory, we can say this with total
confidence:

"Messages, languages and coded information never,
ever come from anything else besides a mind.
No one has ever produced a single example of a message
that did not come from a mind."

Nature can create fascinating patterns - snowflakes,
sand dunes, crystals, stalagmites and stalactites. Tornados
and turbulence and cloud formations.

But non-living things cannot create language. They
*cannot* create codes. Rocks cannot think and they
cannot talk. And they cannot create information.

It is believed by some that life on planet earth arose
accidentally from the "primordial soup," the early ocean which
produced enzymes and eventually RNA, DNA, and primitive cells.

But there is still a problem with this theory: It fails to
answer the question, 'Where did the information come from?'

DNA is not merely a molecule. Nor is it simply a "pattern."
Yes, it contains chemicals and proteins, but those chemicals
are arranged to form an intricate language, in the exact same way
that English and Chinese and HTML are languages.

DNA has a four-letter alphabet, and structures very similar
to words, sentences and paragraphs. With very precise
instructions and systems that check for errors and correct them.

To the person who says that life arose naturally,
you need only ask: "Where did the information come from?
Show me just ONE example of a language that didn't come
from a mind."
Every word you hear, every sentence you speak, every
dog that barks, every song you sing, every email you read,
every packet of information that zings across the Internet,
is proof of the existence of God. Because information
and language always originate in a mind.

In the beginning were words and language.

In the Beginning was Information.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God and the Word was God."--John 1:1"
Essay by Mr. Perry Marshall MS CS Cal Tech

"Please point to a strictly natural process that creates information. What evidence is there that information, such as that in DNA, could ever assemble itself?

Codes are produced only by intelligence, not by natural processes or chance. A code is a set of rules for converting information from one useful form to another. Examples include Morse code and braille. Code makers must simultaneously understand at least two ways of representing information and then establish the rules for converting from one to the other and back again.

The genetic material that controls the physical processes of life is coded information. Also coded are complex and completely different functions: the transmission, translation, correction, and duplication systems, without which the genetic material would be useless, and life would cease. It seems most reasonable that the genetic code, the accompanying transmission, translation, correction, and duplication systems were produced simultaneously in each living organism by an extremely high intelligence.

Likewise, no natural process has ever been observed to produce a program. A program is a planned sequence of steps to accomplish some goal. Computer programs are common examples. Because programs require foresight, they are not produced by chance or natural processes. The information stored in the genetic material of all life is a complex program. Therefore, it appears that an unfathomable intelligence created these genetic programs.

Life contains matter, energy, and information. All isolated systems, including living organisms, have specific, but perishable, amounts of information. No isolated system has ever been shown to increase its information content significantly. Nor do natural processes increase information; they destroy it. Only outside intelligence can significantly increase the information content of an otherwise isolated system." -- Dr. Walt Brown PhD. M.E. M.I.T. Can you answer this?
