There are a few things you did not mention such as electric or acoustic, steel string or nylon string, what style of music you want to play, how much you already know about music, etc. I gathered together a grab bag of questions I have already answered on this subject for you to look over. They include many links to sites that sell inexpensive guitars, so you should be able to narrow this question down significantly at least. Hope this helps.

You can get a real nice one at the Guitar Center, it's a Yamaha acoustic electric, the plain acoustic is even less, the acoustic electric is about $250.00, and on sale even less the acoustic is about $180.00 just ask the clerk for a deal and they usually give you one !!!!!! Just go there and play around they have a lot of inexpensive guitars but I wouldn't want to recommend any because you have to play it and feel the action, everyone has a certain sound and feel that they like, why not spend a couple of hours in there and see what you think, I always have a ball when I do this, I love the way people sit around in there and play around with the guitars, you see all kinds and hear all different styles of playing it's great !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, musician's friend is good. So is guitar center. But it would help to know what you mean by "cheap." You could get an "ok" guitar for a couple of hundred bucks, but below that, are going to get garbage. Fender, Guild, Ovation, Gibson, Gretcsh...lots of good companies make low end guitars that are really pretty good. If there is a guitar store nearby, you should really go try before you buy. If you dont know how to play yet, the people in the store will be happy to discuss what's best for you.

Usually I will agree with more avid guitar players and say you get what you pay for, but like others mentioned... musicians friend.com is a good source.. they have a brand called ROUGE.... under 100 bucks new and honestly sound and play nice. I have an acoustic/electric one that I use for gigs, has been thru the ringer and is tried and true...easy action, thin neck, fun to play (geez they should pay me for the endorsement) lol

Dean makes guitars starting at about $100 that look pretty good and hold up surprisingly well.
