This is a sincere question addressed to believers. I have my own answers, but am not certain whether they are correct.
Consider: it is certain that Jesus was a Jew; maybe that resolves the question.
But did he become a Christian at some point?
Or maybe since Jesus was also God, there was no need for him to belong to any religion, since the notion of religion involves justification and eternal salvation: Jesus had no need of justification and salvation since he was the Second Person of the Trinity, he was God?
Please resolve. Thanks in advance.

Jesus is God, Who became flesh.

What is a Christian? It is someone who is following Christ.

Jesus is the Christ. How could he join a religion which followed Himself?

It would be totally illogical to expect that God would join a religion to worship himself.

It would be like asking the Navy to file income tax forms to the IRS.

Rommel, the man who came to be called Jesus was a Jew. He was born a Jew, his mother was a Jew (a vital distinction then and now), he preached as a Jew, he died "King of the Jews." Christianity came along after the Romans executed him, functioned as a Jewish sect until Goys were allowed in, and pretty much functioned as a sect until Emperor Constantine, for reasons which had nothing to do with Jesus and little with Christianity itself, made it the state religion of the Roman Empire. So, not a short answer but an answer: Jesus was not a Christian.

a Christian is essentially a "Christ-one", a follower of Christ or a "little Christ". so no, He wasn't a follower, imitator of, or smaller version of Himself.

so yes, He was a Jew. no He didn't become a Christian at some point. the word "Christian" wasn't invented in Jesus' time, but rather after He had left the earth. the inventors of the term were the people of Antioch.

Judaism was the preparation for Christ's introduction of a relationship with God. so yes, He had to be born into the religion of Judaism (after all, the Messaiah was promised as a Jew). religion involves man's search for God or his trying to appease God with acts of goodness, or trying to gain favour through obsequious acts.

How can He be a Christian if we are following Christ? He is the example and we follow His teaching. He is the head of the church and we abide in Him. He is the Word of God who has come in the flesh so He is what we follow. I wouldnt call Jesus a Christian because the title of Christianity isnt important...we are Christ followers. We dont care about the term "religion" or "Christianity" but use it to define us simply among the other people who have different gods or holy books. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and He did not consider Himself Christian, He considers Himself as the Son of God, the Messiah. And we are His disciples.

Neat question. Could a person follow himself?

In this regard, Jesus worshiped and followed his Father, whose name is Jehovah (the most popular pronunciation). He was not part of any trinity. In fact he said himself, "My Father is greater than I am." (John 14:28)

Since being a Christian means to walk in Jesus' footsteps and he walked in them first---then yes, he was the first Christian. Especially since it includes but is not limited to Jews.

Jesus was not his own Father so do not burden yourself with a belief that only can end with it's a mystery. As there are no facts to back this up. Only the Father and Son being "one" in agreement. Human fathers and sons are one in agreement as well but none have 3 heads on one body.

Jesus was Jewish. Christian, be definition, is a follower of Christ. So Jesus couldn't really follow Himself. He's the First, the Original, the Founder of the Christian faith. His followers during His lifetime would have been 'Christian' by definition but not by name until He established His church on the day of Pentecost, as I understand the scriptures.

He was a Jew.

Those followed him called themselves Christ-ians because they believed in Him as the true Son of God and the Messiah.

Christianity means the following of Christ.

Jesus himself was a Jewish man from Bethlehem.
Christianity wasn't invented until the 2nd century. So Christianity is one of the newer beliefs within the religious world.

Jesus was a Jew..... He was supposedly The Christ! The disciples were then Christians because they followed Jesus as Christ and started the church of believers.
