I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3" lift and 31" tires, and Quadra-Trac all time 4 wheel drive. While driving on pavement, once I hit about 45 mph, the whole vehicle starts vibrating pretty violently, then around 48 it goes back to normal. What's causing this, the tires, all time 4 wheel drive, or the driveshaft?

The answer before me is correct--it's called Death Wobble. Not as harmful as it seems though.. there could be many many many things that cause DW. Your tires could be unbalanced (take it to a tire shop and have them balance them perfectly--the bigger the tire, the bigger the DW), some bolts could be loose in your suspension (if you installed your lift, check everything you messed with... if someone else did, go to them and have them check it out), etc etc.

Best bet is to have someone ride with you in person that has experienced it and fixed it.

Its called "Death Wobble" her idea is a good one but normally its cause by imporper lifting of the vehicle. Also sounds like the tires are just a little to big for your lift, I have a 3" lift but my tires are about two sizes smaller. But try her idea becuase I installed different shocks when I lifted mine and I have never had a problem

I have a 95' Jeep Cherokee with a 6" lift and it did the exact same thing. I put longer shocks on it. With a lift and stock shocks, the shocks are maxed out and have no room to travel. I put the longer shocks on about 4 years ago and it has not done it once since.

As long as the tire size and width are the same you can use any tire and design, Does not matter. These are not the tires that came on your Jeep, Michelins are damn near the most expensive tire on the market, And not really worth there cost, especially on a jeep.Any brand, with the same size will work fine.I worked at Les Shwaub tire fore a few yr, am 55.
