No. There is a report due from the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq on progress made since the surge. He is expected to recommend a reduction in the number of American forces, but a "pullout" is unlikely in the foreseeable future and it would take at least 6 months to do it safely.

Pulling out in the space of one month is impossible under the best of circumstances. Any candidate who suggests otherwise should not be taken seriously since we have too many troops and "assets" to make that happen in a short space of time such as a month.

the general there said a long time ago that he would not know how things are going until sept - well it is almost sept and he is calling for a pull back.

that should be an indicator.

I've seen no news to that effect. There is a 'report' on Iraq due in September, and it's sounding like it will call for a modest reduction in troops - back to pre 'surge' levels - sometime next year.

Of what year?

Beau R: I know where your coming from but I think it makes them look even more stupid then usual.

cosmicwindwalker: Is that what the General meant by saying the surge is working and no pullback should be initiated?

Highly unlikely. There will be a presence of our military over there for YEARS to come. They may withdraw some troops but not entirely.

Yes.
Before September 2008.

The "cut-and-run" strategy is already on the planning table.

Hint: watch for Bernanke.
