Depends on the copyright really. Most resale music though have international copyrights, which means in any country it is illegal to download it unless you have purchased the music.

Even downloading it if you previously purchased the music is debatable because of the poorly written and understood copyright laws regarding intellectual property and digital media.

What answer do you think that you would get from the music companies and artist if you were to ask them if it was ok for you to download their material free for personal use?

If you were the artist would you want people to take your work for free?

Stealing for personal use is still stealing. Just because others do it does not make it legal or right.

downloading anything for free is really considered illegal really, especially music. But hey, if its personal use, i wouldn't think too much about it. I know people are going to boo me for this but hey... everyone does it. As long as you don't burn music on a CD and sell it to others, I think you're fine. If you're that worried, then don't do it! It's as simple as that.

Yes, if you have not purchased the song before. If you have purchased the CD or the song from another place and want to back it up, then it is ok.
